Iron Man room party at Con.Txt hosted by Stark Industries

Room Party, Room 621 7pm - Special Guest Elspeth Dixon! All Iron Man, all the time.

Yes, we have comics! Yes, we welcome Iron Man/Captain America!

(Also, we're going out to dinner at 5:30, all are welcome, we're meeting at the comic table in the con suite.)

ETA: There will be a Comic Book fandom room party, also with Elspeth in attendance, also in room 621, after the vid show.

Con.Txt was this weekend???

*Fails at Fandom* I'm even w/in 2 hours of driving distance, contrary to all expectations. If I'd realized there was going to be Tony/Steve shenanigans (and that it was *this weekend*) I'd totally have made the drive (I'm out in West Virginia visiting my mum).

Anything going on tomorrow??

Having just checked the site (I was there 2 years ago, but blocked this year from my mind due to not thinking I was going to be within spitting distance of it), there are no at-door memberships, so I won't be popping down tomorrow like I'd been considering. Give Elspeth my best, eh?

Thus my simply attending the room party -- I'm not actually registered for the con, just here because I live two hours away.

Caveat: I'm not a creepy stalker-type, honest. I merely have massive amounts of respect for your coherence in Avengers fandom (which I have, rather recently, been dragged into head first by [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills.

*Checks your userinfo* You're at UMCP? I went there (once upon a time, before my life spun heinously out of control and I had to leave school for 4 years). If you're in the English Department, is Professor Flieger still there?

I'm out in West Virginia visiting family, hence being in the area unexpectedly. Would you mind if, at some future point, I picked your brain electronically about using comics in academia?

Dunno. I was in the Library Science and history graduate schools (until last month, when I graduated), so I never interacted with the English department.

Not at all, but the person whose brain you really want to pick is [livejournal.com profile] harmonyangel, who's done some undergraduate papers on Captain America comics. My sole use of comics in academic work was devising a cataloging/classification scheme for Marvel comics for Information Structure class.

Well, it was worth a shot (she's the Tolkien Scholar on staff), and no worries. Congrats on successfully crawling out the far side of graduate school!! I hear these periodic horror stories, and it's nice to know that occasionally there are survivors ^_~

I've found that, when it comes to these kinds of things, the more the merrier, so I will probably ping you on the topic at some point (one of my last 4 undergrad classes is "Studies in Narrative - The Graphic Novel", and I'm hoping to do my paper on Something Marvel). Thank you very kindly for the reference, and I'll be sure to look Harmony up as well.

Not your fault. I'd just completely knocked Con.Txt off my radar, thus the whole "Wait, WTF? NO!!!" reaction to seeing your post.

Given the way my next few years are looking to shape up, I should make it to Con.Txt 2010, at least. 2006 was a blast, and it sounds like 2008 is as well. Glad you guys are having a good time.
