Hi, everyone. I just got off the phone with [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon, who says she's cut off from the internet and email for a few days because her computer's broken. So she asked me to continue the meetup planning in her stead.

It's too late for Friday night, and Saturday during the con doesn't seem to be as popular an option as Saturday after the con, so a Saturday post-con meetup it is. Also, post-con means people without con badges can meet up too!

So here's the plan, rough and ready as it is. Meetup time gathering time? From 7-7:15 pm Saturday, just after the show floor closes. Let's meet up just outside the convention exit (but just inside the doors to the building) at the farthest doors of the 35th st building entrance of the Javits center, the ones used by exhibitors, near the Will Call booths with the yellow signage. [livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon will be wearing a Ms. Marvel era Carol Danvers costume, and someone will be holding up a small Cap/Ironman sign.

From there we will proceed to a food-having destination either decided upon tonight in the comments or together in person.

If you're coming and/or if you have any questions or suggestions, please reply here ASAP.

So, this coming weekend (Friday the 11th through Sunday the 13th) is New York Comicon. Are any comm members who're planning on attending interested in meeting up at some point, either during the con itself or in the evening after the convention floor closes?

[Poll #1937840]

ETA: Suggestions atm are for tonight after the con, and Saturday at the con either directly before or directly after the Agents of SHIELD panel.

Anyone on the comm planning on going to NYCC? If so, some of us NYC Steve/Tony fans are trying to put together an Avengers meet-up on either Saturday or Sunday.

[Poll #1872066]

Edit: Looks like Saturday at the con/Saturday evening wins. How about 3:30 at the Publisher's Weekly table (shortly before the Marvel TV panel starts - look for the blonde in the Ms. Marvel costume), and gathering again at the same location around 5:45-6pm to go out to dinner somewhere?

Comic Con is upon us, and this post is a shout-out to anyone who is going this year or is in the San Diego area.

If you are attending SDCC and would like to meet some new people, respond to this post so we can organize something!

Any interest in Avengers movie meetups? I was thinking it'd be fun to watch with fans who had similar ~interests.

There are the various Marvel movie marathons on Thurs, May 3, and the Avengers movie opening Fri, May 4.

I'll be in the Bay area in California. If anyone's in the area and is interested in either, just let me know! :D

It sounded like there was some interest in a C2E2 [community profile] cap_ironman meet-up. Last year during the convention I had breakfast at a sunny restaurant called Yolk on S Michigan Ave which I really liked, so I was thinking we could meet there on Saturday, April 14th, maybe around 10 AM. There are free shuttles that go from the convention center to a stop a couple blocks from Yolk.

I'd like to know how this would work for those of you hoping to meet-up. If this fits the schedules of most people, I'll go ahead and make a reservation, so please let me know if you plan to come. If there's another time or place that works better for most people, we can arrange something else.

Saturday got the most votes in the meet-up poll, so both Cap_Ironman meet-ups are planned for tomorrow (Saturday) at NYCC.

Meet-up #1: At the Publisher's Weekly table (table 27-26) at 3:00pm.  People who want to can go on from that to attend the Marvel TV panel together at 3:45 (there may be some previews for EMH).

Meet-up #2: At 8pm for dinner at Mooncake (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mooncake-foods-new-york-2), which is located at 263 W 30th St (between 8th Ave & 7th Ave) .  We have reservations for seven, but can easily make room for a few more, if you want to bring a friend or didn't reply to the poll but still want to come.  Mooncak is Chinese-American fusion food, and should have both some vegetarian and some non-dairy dishes on the menu.

No official meet-ups are planned for Sunday, but several people from the comm will be around the Publishers Weekly booth at various points during the afternoon.

So, New York ComicCon is slightly over a week from now.* Is anyone else on the comm either a) planning to attend the convention, or b) not attending, but going to be in NYC that weekend, and if so, would you be interested in meeting up either at the convention itself or for dinner/drinks/coffee/something afterwards?

*Can Elspeth get the EMH Ms. Marvel costume sewn by then? The countdown begins now!

A mixed pile of slashers, ficcers and Captain America fans is having an evening, after-work expedition to eat good Chinese food and then see Captain America THIS THURSDAY! Seriously, it doesn't matter if you've never met me or any of the other guests at this before - the more the merrier!

Dinner is at Grand Sichuan at St Marks at 6:30. (23 St. Marks, a block from the Astor Place subway) Yes, they specialize in spicy, but I'm a wimp and can testify to the tastiness of their non-spicy foods. They also have vegetarian options. Better yet, they like geeks (they're the traditional afterparty for the monthly KGB readings), they're set up for groups, and they encourage family-style sharing for the table! (Keeps the price down)

We will then proceed to the AMC Empire 25 theater for the 8pm show, NOT IN 3D, Buy your tickets ahead of time, people, or I am not responsible for your miserable fate!

You can have dinner and no movie! We're happy to have you! You can have movie and no dinner, that's cool too! Mix and match time!

This is a little short notice, considering that the con is already on-going right now, but is there anyone on the comm who's already at or going to be at New York Comicon?

If so, I think we ought to organize some kind of cap_ironman meet-up Saturday/Sunday.

ETA: It seems like Sunday is the day that works best for the most people. Any suggestions for a time/place to meet?

ETA: Sunday afternoon by the Starbucks kiosk seems like the time people have chosen. 1-2pm conflicts with both Marvel/Avengers-related creator stuff that several people want to go to, and also with the time I have to booth-sit, so does 3pm work for everyone?

There are seven million people in New York City. Some of them must be on this comm.

Does anyone want to organize any kind of Labor Day weekend meet-up of Steve/Tony fans in the NYC area?

edit: Wow, we have a very geographically/internationally diverse fandom.

It's hard to plan a time until we know the exact programming schedule but there will be a meet up.

There had been mention of meet up shirts, and thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] smilingskull we have some based off of her "love is letting your boyfriendmolest play with your shield" icon.

While it's 'slashy', I don't think its overtly so and I'm not sure how many people would 'get it'. But wear around the Marvel booth at your own risk.

The men's shirt is slightly cheaper than the womans shirt.

Any funds earned will go to favor bags and food for the met up.

If you're planning to attend the meet up please let me know so I can start estimating how many favor bags I'll need.

I read Essential Captain America Volume 2 and Avengers Visionaries: George Perez recently, and both had a few Cap/Iron Man moments. I decided to share some scans. Ready?

ExpandNot dial-up friendly )

Well, that's all for now. Oh, and I have a question: I know a lot of folk go to the big conventions on the coasts, but does anyone on this comm plan on attending any midwest conventions? Con Vergence and Gaylaxicon are both in the Twin Cities this year, and while both are more sci-fi than comics, I know that Gaylaxicon had a fair amount of stuff devoted to comics when I attended two years ago.

Geek Kon is a small, free con in Madison held in the fall. Last year there was a fanfic panel, a slash/yaoi panel, and several manga panels. No superhero panel though, which is a damn shame. Easy to change, though.

As people may or may not know, New York ComicCon is this weekend, Friday through Sunday.

Comment here if you plan to go (ooh, and if you are going, do you plan to cosplay?). Maybe the comm, or at least some of the people *on* the comm, can arrange some kind of meet-up.

Also, is anyone in/around NYC and interested in a fannish meet-up *outside* the con? (i.e. for those who don't want to go/didn't sign up before and don't want to pay extra fees to do so now/etc.)

ComicCon status:
[livejournal.com profile] seanchai not attending, willing to meet up for a fannish gathering outside the con.
[livejournal.com profile] elspethdixon possibly/probably attending Saturday or Sunday, also willing to meet up outside the con, may cosplay Gwen Stacy (or Ms. Marvel, if feeling exceptionally brave).

Room Party, Room 621 7pm - Special Guest Elspeth Dixon! All Iron Man, all the time.

Yes, we have comics! Yes, we welcome Iron Man/Captain America!

(Also, we're going out to dinner at 5:30, all are welcome, we're meeting at the comic table in the con suite.)

ETA: There will be a Comic Book fandom room party, also with Elspeth in attendance, also in room 621, after the vid show.

Note: This is kind of off topic, so, mods, tell me if you want me to move it elsewhere.

Is anyone on the comm interested in meeting up in New York City on May 2nd or 3rd to go see Iron Man?

[livejournal.com profile] seanchai and I will both be there, and while we already have our midnight-on-Thursday tickets, I can already assert that we're going to want to watch this movie more than once, and that it would be awesome to go see it in a large, obnoxiously-squeeing fannish group.

ETA: So, we've established that everyone lives in Canada. Hopefully the movie will be in theaters for a while, and people can work something out over the summer.
