worst possible candidate for a kid-friendly reboot what do you mean? the weapons manufacturerr part? the nearly dying from your own weapon in a warzone part? the drinking, business and the women stories?
Spider-Man into Iron Man's armor why am I now envisioning a scene with Tony standing in his father´s bureau, holding the Ironman helmet in his hand, gazing at the city and muttering "From great power comes great responsibility....my dad used to say that"...? + he has a redhaired girlfriend
re: worse possible candidate for a kid-friendly reboot
Sunset Bain...meeeeet Chris Hansen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Hansen#To_Catch_a_Predator)!
...and Obie or his stand-in, emotionally manipulates Tony into becoming Iron Man, and maybe tricks him into hitting one of the good guys or somehow setting him up for a fall even though he's wee. Tony accidentally does kill one of the good guys, if we want the MADD angst level of PSA, or just ALMOST, if we don't want it that dark.
Obie gets busted. Agent Fury pulls Tony aside to tell him that "Kid, you have potential", but Fury quite possibly has learned from Bucky (maybe the brainwashing wouldn't have took with someone more grounded, stable and more experienced). Put Tony under the Baxer program alongside Reed Richards.
Jarvis is elected regent, and he'll have a long road ahead of him in mentoring Tony who will have guilt-guilt-guilt from killing or almost killing one of the good guys.
Kids! Robots might be cool, but leave the superheroing to the grown ups!
Trading all that in for teenage angst? No thanks I´m making a prophecy: this series (provided it will last long enough) will see a Rhodey/Pepper/Tony love triangle, school bullies and at least one episode about the prom.

That, and also the periodic involvement in politics and world affairs part.
Trading all that in for teenage angst? No thanks.
