This is more Orson Scott Card's Ultimate iron man than 616 one

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
With the whole Rhodey (so where's the black girl?) and Stark's dad being alive thing. I'll just consider this 1616 canon, and even then, it's dodgy cannon. But if it gets the children to read the comics, and expands the character to a younger audience, that's good, I guess? I have a fear that the comic book will die out when us older folk do.

I'm rather torn, because there's already going to be a new Avengers cartoon (with Ironman as the leader. LOL! I love Stark, but him leading over Captain America? Hahahahahahahaha.... no), and I really don't want Stark to be over exposed. Another reason why I'm rather stink eye at this cartoon is the whole Mandarin thing, because Mandarin is powerful, and boy! Stark taking him on? No.

But I'm glad that there's some Daddy issues in this cartoon. Stark wouldn't be Stark without said issues, you know?

I mean *canon*

I can spell, honest.

What is good will go on.

I'm in my early twenties for now, and I prefer the original Star Trek over all spin-offs, I adore Bob Dylan, and if I have godchildren or some such I will totally send them stuff like Marvel Adventures for Christmas.

As long as stuff are still being re-run, they won't die, and then there is the fact that geek is a subculture now, there are subcultures, there are geek parents who are friends who watches sci-fi with their children instead of (or in addition to) football. Did American Football die out when the first fans did, even though it's a supposed manly sport with more chest padding than a junior high prom?

I thought making Iron Man the leader of the Avengers was pretty conceivable. I mean, first of all, this is quite blatently made to tie into the film canon and so far things seem to indicate that it will essentially be Tony Stark's team (Fury approached HIM and then Stark sought out Bruce Banner).

Also, in the comics it always seemed to me that Tony was the one pulling the strings anyway. Cap may have been the field leader, but as long as Stark kept signing the cheques, the team was essentially his.

That said, the Iron Man cartoon still sucks.

Yeah

Commenting just on the title of your post: in no way is this as good as that verse. I was hoping they'd adapt that into a cartoon because it would of been 1000000% better. The only similarity is that they're kids and he has the armor. Similarities end there. Hokeyness begins from there on out.

Oh, FFS

Nope. Still does not compute.

Teenage!Tony?! And wtf Mandarin!?

Daddy Stark is "alive"?! Arc reactor?! WTF!?!?

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing from the way Teen!Tony is screaming DAAaaaaAAAd! in the first part that Daddy Stark isn't around for very long?

I can't help but feel that this is A Bad Idea on Marvel's part.

LOL.

Well someone has been reading too much Ultimate Iron Man, me thinks.

No, I kid. The animation is pretty good, and, well, yay for new market, but I'll always be doubtful of teen!clean-shaved!Tony. Because that's just wrong. (And what would Tony be without him sleeping his way through the Marvel universe?!)

[identity profile] duffnstuff.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I saw the first episode of this - it came with my copy of the movie.

It was unwatchable. Absolutely painful. So bad, in fact, that I turned it off and watched the old school cartoon. It was THAT bad.

I dearly hope the new Avengers cartoon is radically different >

[identity profile] melisus.livejournal.com 2008-11-29 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I lasted five minutes into the pilot episode when it aired last week.

Five minutes was all I could take. SO.SO.BAD.

...America, I could've sworn we'd had the talk about attempting to capture the youth market with a generic, badly-made, badly-written, anime knockoff, i.e. that you shouldn't, because it results in...well, among other things, in creating a generic teen hero who has none of the character traits that make Tony Stark memorable. (Characterization: learn you some.) Man, I could do better than this!

[identity profile] empty-splendor.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
I also saw the first episode of this on the Iron Man dvd. This looks like a cold POS.

Kid!Tony just doesn't work for me... he doesn't have enough life experience to make the Iron Man gesture believable if he's just some kid with some toys.

Marvel. X-Men Evolution was horrible. This is also going to be horrible. Stop it!

This.

Oh, man, I don't know. I try to give new things a chance, I really do, but out of all the old-school Marvel superheroes out there, Iron Man seems like the worst possible candidate for a kid-friendly reboot. Pretty much everything that makes the character interesting depends on him being an adult, with an adult's flaws and problems.

This clip looks and sounds as if somebody stuck Spider-Man into Iron Man's armor, which is just wrong...

That trailer was pretty fun, but I saw part of the episode they shipped in the DVD set and it was eye-gouging. I couldn't hack it and turned it off.

Anyway, Tony's backstory is a big part of the appeal for me, so Teen!Tony gives me the meh. If I wanted to read about a totally different person, I'd slog through Ulimate Iron Man. Which nothing on earth can make me do.

(Wow, bitch, bitch, bitch. ;) I should mind my manners and thank you for posting the clip. I did enjoy watching it. :D)

[identity profile] empty-splendor.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
LOL manners. Who has those?

[identity profile] jwaneeta.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, there, OP! It's you! :D I snagged one of the Tony icons you posted on that 100 page a while back. It's very pretty!

(I credit you in the comments and I credit you here. Thank you! :D)

Well, Howard Stark is sure a DILF in this one

[identity profile] hohaiyee.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that Tony Stark is so young however, just makes everything that much more disturbing. Spiderman can't help but have the power he have, and after Uncle Ben, what he does is therapeutic.

Here, we have a child soldier...why isn't Howard doing something about this? His son doesn't have any superpowers and can and should live a normal life for now.

OH i had NIGHTMARES!

It hurts to look at....

[identity profile] kelmendi.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Why does Marvel do things like this? Is it because they want to hurt me?

[identity profile] benphrinse-rio.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
I want to know why Marvel thinks it is okay to do stupid s*** like this. Seriously...What. The. Eff.

Also, is this supposed to be a movie, or a tv series of some sort?
ext_18328: (Default)

TV series , I think

[identity profile] jazzypom.livejournal.com 2008-11-30 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
My only solace is that most cartoons don't last longer than two seasons anyway. May this be killed off in the first one.
