With the whole Rhodey (so where's the black girl?) and Stark's dad being alive thing. I'll just consider this 1616 canon, and even then, it's dodgy cannon. But if it gets the children to read the comics, and expands the character to a younger audience, that's good, I guess? I have a fear that the comic book will die out when us older folk do.
I'm rather torn, because there's already going to be a new Avengers cartoon (with Ironman as the leader. LOL! I love Stark, but him leading over Captain America? Hahahahahahahaha.... no), and I really don't want Stark to be over exposed. Another reason why I'm rather stink eye at this cartoon is the whole Mandarin thing, because Mandarin is powerful, and boy! Stark taking him on? No.
But I'm glad that there's some Daddy issues in this cartoon. Stark wouldn't be Stark without said issues, you know?
Well someone has been reading too much Ultimate Iron Man, me thinks.
No, I kid. The animation is pretty good, and, well, yay for new market, but I'll always be doubtful of teen!clean-shaved!Tony. Because that's just wrong. (And what would Tony be without him sleeping his way through the Marvel universe?!)
I'm in my early twenties for now, and I prefer the original Star Trek over all spin-offs, I adore Bob Dylan, and if I have godchildren or some such I will totally send them stuff like Marvel Adventures for Christmas.
As long as stuff are still being re-run, they won't die, and then there is the fact that geek is a subculture now, there are subcultures, there are geek parents who are friends who watches sci-fi with their children instead of (or in addition to) football. Did American Football die out when the first fans did, even though it's a supposed manly sport with more chest padding than a junior high prom?
I thought making Iron Man the leader of the Avengers was pretty conceivable. I mean, first of all, this is quite blatently made to tie into the film canon and so far things seem to indicate that it will essentially be Tony Stark's team (Fury approached HIM and then Stark sought out Bruce Banner).
Also, in the comics it always seemed to me that Tony was the one pulling the strings anyway. Cap may have been the field leader, but as long as Stark kept signing the cheques, the team was essentially his.
...America, I could've sworn we'd had the talk about attempting to capture the youth market with a generic, badly-made, badly-written, anime knockoff, i.e. that you shouldn't, because it results in...well, among other things, in creating a generic teen hero who has none of the character traits that make Tony Stark memorable. (Characterization: learn you some.) Man, I could do better than this!
Re: This is more Orson Scott Card's Ultimate iron man than 616 one
Commenting just on the title of your post: in no way is this as good as that verse. I was hoping they'd adapt that into a cartoon because it would of been 1000000% better. The only similarity is that they're kids and he has the armor. Similarities end there. Hokeyness begins from there on out.
I also saw the first episode of this on the Iron Man dvd. This looks like a cold POS.
Kid!Tony just doesn't work for me... he doesn't have enough life experience to make the Iron Man gesture believable if he's just some kid with some toys.
Marvel. X-Men Evolution was horrible. This is also going to be horrible. Stop it!
Oh, man, I don't know. I try to give new things a chance, I really do, but out of all the old-school Marvel superheroes out there, Iron Man seems like the worst possible candidate for a kid-friendly reboot. Pretty much everything that makes the character interesting depends on him being an adult, with an adult's flaws and problems.
This clip looks and sounds as if somebody stuck Spider-Man into Iron Man's armor, which is just wrong...
I think it's a joint leadership, sometimes involving Wasp or Storm
Thor and Hulk are fighters, and Peter and Hank are full on nerds. Tony is a nerd but he's also a business man, so he knows how to budget and deal with the politicians (pre-Extremis?). Steve is a solider, he's been in a chain of command structure so leading is natural to him, as is following when the other person has the better idea. I love how when the group splits up, Iron Man and Cap always go together, and cooperate equally so well.
From the few scenes I've seen of Wasp, she takes a lot of initiative. In Marvel Adventures, Storm is cast as the seasoned leader. Steve directs them in the field, but Storm directs them off-field and point out areas of improvement in a constructive manner. Hmmm, in fact, Storm seem to lead more than Steve and Tony, who somehow seem younger. This might account for the fluffy atmosphere, things are always fluffier when there is a grown up doing the spotting.
That trailer was pretty fun, but I saw part of the episode they shipped in the DVD set and it was eye-gouging. I couldn't hack it and turned it off.
Anyway, Tony's backstory is a big part of the appeal for me, so Teen!Tony gives me the meh. If I wanted to read about a totally different person, I'd slog through Ulimate Iron Man. Which nothing on earth can make me do.
(Wow, bitch, bitch, bitch. ;) I should mind my manners and thank you for posting the clip. I did enjoy watching it. :D)
but I'll always be doubtful of teen!clean-shaved!Tony that´s the first (and admittedly most important) bone I´ve had to pick with that. Stark does not exist without his beard....he always goes undercover when he gets rid of it. Stark= stache/goatee He loves the beard
Re: This is more Orson Scott Card's Ultimate iron man than 616 one
Stark's dad being alive thing I read in a summary once that Tony´s parents die...Howard´ll probably be a role model for young Tony (what would my father have done? I miss you, daddy....you promised to always be there for me...why am I suddenly reminded of Simba and Mufasa?) Also, with Tony screaming at 0:44..he´s going to die
because there's already going to be a new Avengers cartoon I saw the trailer! I wanted to post it, but I can´t find it anymore on youtube...all I get are those fake movie trailers that are clipped together from already existing Marvel movies -.-
Stark wouldn't be Stark without said issues, you know? butI think it will probably more issues like in the movie with his das as a role model...and not as a cold guy who sent his "wimp of a son" toa boarding school
Re: This is more Orson Scott Card's Ultimate iron man than 616 one
things seem to indicate that it will essentially be Tony Stark's team not to forget that Tony may have some controlling issues and prefers to give orders than to follow them
and with the big movie success, he´s the most popular now and like with those "Wolverine and the X-Men" show....it will take exactly the same way
Re: This is more Orson Scott Card's Ultimate iron man than 616 one
Daddy Stark is "alive"?! With the "DAAAAAAAAAAAAD" scream from 0:44....the "my dad always wantED"....and that I read that Tony´s parents are both dead.....Howard´ll die so that Tony can have his daddy-issues
Arc reactor?! WTF!?!? I may be mistaken, but they sneakily wrote the reactor even in the MA verse. In the "date" issue (I believe it was 28) you can see it under Tony´s shirt and I´m positively sure that it hadn´t been there when the series started. Sadly I don´t have prove here in form of a shirtless Tony I can show you, but he was not equipped with an reactor at first. It´s a modern breastplate, much cooler and worked in the movie, so they´re putting it everywhere
I dearly hope the new Avengers cartoon is radically different I saw the trailer...at least that looks better! I can´t find it anymore on youtube, but it was really good....except that they drew the armor in a strange way and put a lot of emphasis on Tony
