I made the following for a friend, to help clear her mind of bad art. It got me curious. The art is different for every arc, so we get a different Tony and a different Steve every few issues, but most people who read fic, or even just think about characters while they aren't reading comics, have a picture in their head that is their own representation of the character.

Steve didn't surprise me at all, I am very aware that I like him to look like a fucking tank. xD
I was gonna be more comprehensive but life D:



Who is Tony and who is Steve in your head? What are your favorite looks? There are so many different variations of these guys, I'm really curious to see what some of you picture when you write and read!

Mostly, I'm with you.

Specifically, this is my Steve:

(Ah, Carol, you get all the luck. And still, Steve is one of the few men I "know" who are comfortable to hug a female friend to comfort her without any sexual overtones!)

And this is my Tony:

Really loved Maleev's run of CW: The Confession. This is exactly how I picture Tony. Also, the lip-biting is very hot. (And yes, his eyes should be blue, but that's the colorist's fault).

Tony's eyes change color from issue to issue, I swear. On an upcoming cover for IIM, he's got green. And he had blue in DoS and brown in everything else. I can't even keep track of this shit anymore. D:

Tony is so gorgeous there it took me a few stares to register the wrong eye colour. And I'm freakishly touchy about that.

Damn, that's why I was so confused about that issue! The art was so nauseating, I went and checked the artist's name so I'd know never to go near a comic he worked on...but I saw "Maleev" and my brain fried, and I couldn't figure out why.

Brandon Cho, right? I like it. He's big, but not too big, I like the laugh lines (maturity and ease with it). Epting does a very good Steve as well. His body isn't so bulky as Cho's, and when Steve literally bounds into action, you can feel him wanting to jump off the page into your living room. Ugh, when I come back, I need to find some pictures and show.

Maleev's art on the Confession is my definitive Steve, and pretty close to my definitive Tony (definitive Tony = Patrick Zircher + Maleev + a little old skool Don Heck & Gene Colan + a dash of the volume 3 stuff in the Original Post's collage).

The arms are indeed very nice ^_^. That issue is largely responsible for my conviction that Steve's entire casual wardrobe ought to consist of tight, blue t-shirts (Tony's should be all grease-stained wifebeaters and goggles).

Also, I agree about the dark eyebrows being so so weird, but the rest of his face and body is so close to what I see in my head that I tend to disregard that one flaw. The armssss and that smile. :D
