Mind Control and Steve

Hello experts of [community profile] cap_ironman... I was working on a chapter of my Tony/Steve series when something occurred to me:

1. I was wondering, do you think a Psychic of Emma Frost's abilities would be able to read Steve's mind? Because I think I read somewhere that the super soldiers of Marvel universe tend to trained to fight Psychic attacks...

2. How about Tony with his Extremis?

3. Does anyone in Avengers (past or present) have Psychic abilities?

Emma Frost is a powerful telepath

I could see her rooting around Steve's mind. I mean, she got into the Sentry's mind, and he's well, pretty powerful. You might want to read her annual that just came out.

Re: Stark, that's a very good question. I'm sure she could. Stark's mind is still human, despite the extremis.

Dude, she ripped into Bobby Drake's head

(he of the X-men) and manipulated his ice powers to staggering heights. I do remember Bobby and co being absolutely gobsmacked to the point of Xavier making overtures for Emma Frost to join his school.

Emma is amazing. Or at least, she was until she hooked up with Scott (even though Fraction is making her back to amazing again. There's hints in his characterisation).

Emma's truly powerful. I think people might not take her seriously because of her blue lipstick and tendency to walk around in white, pornstaresque clothing. People tend to under estimate her because of her cool ice blonde looks and strange taste in clothing.

She's one of the most powerful telepaths in the Marvel Universe - she explicitly stated she could tear down the mental defences Professor X had installed in Wolverine's head, and she's been shown to be able to control multiple people in complex situations. I imagine she could wander in and out of Steve's mind at will.

The Extremis? I wouldn't have thought it would have made much difference, honestly.

Emma and Tony? They used to be... friends with benefits I suppose would be the best way of putting it. They had a confrontation in Civil War when Tony tries to get the mutants onside and Emma shuts him down - but they're quite polite about it, and they're no real combat.

Not sure where I saw this, but someone mentioned a while ago that Tony had some kind of watch that shielded his mind from telepaths. Not sure how up-to-date that info is though, because I don't recall a given time frame for the watch. Depending on when he had the watch, he may have given some to the other Avengers, which would include Steve.

It's come up a few times since he first built it, but he's never seemed inclined to share the technology...or even to tell anyone he had it. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, I don't think he's ever given a copy to anybody else (though he might've built it into the War Machine).

Sersi. Doctor Druid. Moondragon was technically a reserve member.

Justice was a telekinetic, but I don't think he did anything telepathy-wise.

If you want to count Hank's telepathic bug helmet... No? I didn't think so. :D

Ooh, I love nerdy questions about canon! *skips off to stash of seventies comics inherited from father*

Right! Avengers 211, September 1981. Bloody Moondragon turns up to ruin everyone's day, i.e. choose a new Avengers team, in the process of which she telepathically freezes Steve, Thor and Tony in place. Tony gets away by activating his bootjets and flying through the ceiling. Whilst up in the air and out of range, so to speak, Tony rather handily thinks to himself:

"Brainwaves are electro-magnetic in nature -- so I can tune my built-in tranceiver toemit a microwaves signal that'll jam her psionic powers! She'll feel like she's got static on every channel!"

And it works. It should be noted, though, that Moondragon does say she'll regain control if she concentrates, but happily Thor's hammer is a fair distraction, Avengers save the day. It's a temporary way in which Tony can repulse telepaths, though, although if he didn't then get away and knock them out or what have you they'd probably be able to overcome it.

Concerning Avenger telepaths, I can't think of any others. Telepaths are far more common among mutants.
