Carbonell is a Americanized version of an Italian name

As far as I've been able to tell from surfing the Internet, Carbonell is a Spanish name, not an Italian name. Even when I google on "carbonell italy", the first name that comes up is Tomás Carbonell, a Spanish tennis player.

"Carbonell" is also an Anglo-Norman name, but I think that the name "Maria Carbonell" is more likely to be Spanish than Anglo-Norman.

Ah, valid point! I was thinking of the name as shortened from Carbonella (or Carbonello, or Carbonelli), which is an Italian name. IDK, I think this is probably a case of "your mileage may vary" depending on the language you speak or have a grounding in (so my default is Italian, generally, and that's where my assessment comes from). And Spanish and Italian do have a lot of proper names in common.

Mind, if we bring in Card's wacky Ultimates origin, her name's Cerrera, not Carbonell...and I do believe that Cerrera is pretty uniformly a Spanish name. *shrug*

Yeah, I think you're probably right about that. I thought Carbonell was an Italian name as well, but when I looked it up (after my comment about Tony sparked such controversy :|) and saw that it was an Anglo-Saxon name, rooted in England. Or something, I didn't really look in to it too much.

But I like thinking of him as Italian (half-Italian) and will probably will continue to do so. :> But at least it's a pretty picture. :D (biased, of course here.)
