Movie Jarvis Solution

I don't know why I like reading movieverse Steve/Tony so much, considering that Steve's isn't out yet so what are we writing from??? (mix of Ultimate and 616?)

The problem was, Missing Jarvis. The house was cool, but Jarvis was an awesome awesome character, and dude, is Spiderman's Aunt going to be dating a house?

I thought of a solution. The movie is an AU of 616. Tony Stark was born Tony Stark, albeit in a slightly different universe. He grew up, as [livejournal.com profile] quigonejinn would put it, in a state of benign neglect and household help". There was his parents who were mostly at social functions I guess, till they died when he was in his 20s, probably while he was Aboard. There was Rhodey at college, and then there was Obadiah since he was a kid, someone who provided stability by being there, but he might have suspected that something was off, he did hid the armour from Obadiah after all.

When Tony was little, he spent a lot of time running around on military bases while his father was in meetings. One memorial day, he runs into a British veteran who was staying on the base as a sort of Boothby to the young cadets. Edwin Jarvis left such an impression on young Tony Stark, that when time came for him to give his AI a name, his AI which would be the voice he comes home to, he chose Jarvis.

...and wouldn't it be sweet if Jarvis was working for SHIELD or something (albeit in a non-combat role) and remember what Tony was like as a kid? Awwwwwwwwww.

In my personal movie!canon, Jarvis (the man) runs the Stark Tower household in New York. Tony's gotta be traveling back and forth between New York and LA for business. :)

The same for me : D or there was a Jarvis in Tony's childhood. I miss human!Jarvis X3

... ooookay.

I always just assumed there was a human Edwin Jarvis running the Stark household in New York. This seems overly complicated and... wow. If movie audiences can't follow the simple stuff they dropped for the Avengers movie, this is way too much.

Also, if Spider-Man shows up in the Avengers movies right off the bat... they're doing it wrong. :|

... be awesome if he cameoed though. Just a little nod to a future spot on the Avengers.

... he's on his fourth movie. *shrug* I'd like to see characters that don't get that kind of play (and have long LONG histories with the Avengers) before they start pulling stuff like that.

But i'm probably in the minority on that one anyway. *shuffles back to her corner*

Like, if Jarvis was there all along, and he's a smart guy, why didn't he figure out Obadiah?

Who's to say he didn't? Honestly I think you're overlooking something pretty crucial here. Jarvis, for all that he is part of the family etc is an employee. And while Tony has a tendency to blur that line, Jarvis has shown (in 616 canon) that he will uphold that. So why didn't he do anything about Obadiah? Because it was NOT HIS PLACE to do so.

Even as fic fodder... I don't know. I'm a fan of the K.I.S.S. method. But whatever gets you off.

Hmmm.... nice thought. Though in my personal canon (that seems to be the watchword of the day! ;D) Edwin Jarvis *did* once run the Stark household in New York but since he inevitably started becoming a good influence to young!Tony, Obadiah (since obviously a responsible Tony who took interest in the going-ons of his company was DO NOT WANT! for him) saw to it that he was let go... (possibly on false accusations...) -_-;

And then Tony kept missing Jarvis and as soon as he was capable enough of doing so started building his very own Jarvis! What can I say, I love teh angstssssss! >:]

But basically, I thought that there was no way Tony wouldn't have brought Jarvis with him to Malibu and made do with an AI (a cool AI who eventually seems to have become more, but there was no way for Tony to know that before, right?) instead. And no way Jarvis would have just left him to the mercy of a 'talking machine', if he was in any way still under Stark employ!

Never could decide what Jarvis did *after* he was let go so I LOVE your idea of SHIELD!Jarvis! <3 After all, its not as if he doesn't have the experience even in canon!

In conclusion --> *_*b

Movie!Tony is a bit older than 616 Tony, and Jarvis is an old man there. Has been for a while, but eh, so has Aunt May, comic books being what they are. Honestly, I always just sort of thought that Jarvis died, and Tony showed how stable and balanced he is with the house thing.

Kinda off-topic from the Jarvis speculation, but rewatched the first movie last night and noticed some of the timeline stuff. Parents died in 1991, when Tony was late teens-20ish. Meaning Tony was born in the early 70s. Howard was actively developing stuff during WWII (passing comments re: working on atomic bombs, plus Cap's shield) -- even if he was a child genius as well, and say he was 20 at that time, that means he was around fifty when Tony was born, older than that in those clips in IM2, and around 70 when he died. Strikes me as a little strange. Would that affect any of the Jarvis theories out there? (Jarvis would be younger than Howard, unless he's like, 90 years old current time.)
