Every fandom needs some good merfolk!AU. Come join the Merfolk Ficathon, where our characters get wet and awesome. Whether you like your merfolk realistic or cracky, this is the ficathon to let them loose in the water. Author sign ups last from August 5th to October 1st. A helpful prompt round will be in effect from August 5th to August 31st.

Maybe Tony's brilliance is the result of mixed blood. Maybe Steve has a secret, and Tony is suspicious. Maybe the Iron Man suit doesn't have to be water-proof. All these possibilities can be yours at the Merfolk Ficathon (come on, tell me that merman doesn't look like Steve just a bit).

I may have read that complex 5o one (by JoeLawson on AO3?) and that was kinda of the catalyst for the ficathon.

I have not heard of the Wilson one but now I want to read it badly.

Probably! I can't imagine there are that many complex H50 merfolk AUs on AO3.

Aw, thanks! I'm happy to rec these because I love their dreamy atmospheres, which is actually what I remember most about them (I'm a bit hazy on the plot, yeah, I should reread), but I also think of them fondly because of an instance of fandom being a small world - the author contacted me when we were both in Doctor Who fandom because she'd just started at a school near me, and afterward we realized we'd been in House fandom together and had previously read each other's fics. I was so excited when I realized she had written the merfolk!Wilson fic.
