THE AVENGERS!! Linkspam!!1one!! (with commentary)
Okay, you guys... I AM OBSESSED with this movie (and it won't come out for another year OMG). I go online and look up news articles about it almost every day. Sometimes, I even hit refresh a few times to see if anything is different. IT'S THAT BAD.
This is not, by any stretch, ALL the links I have pertaining to this movie, but they ARE the most recent. I was sort of gathering them behind a locked entry because I didn't want to inflict madness on anyone else, but FUCK THAT NOISE. COME JOIN ME IN MY CRAZY.
Also: THERE ARE PROBABLY SPOILERS IN HERE FOR ALL THE MARVEL MOVIES AND, OF COURSE, THE AVENGERS. I can't remember any, specifically, but be forewarned.
Also II: Son of Also -- Likely swearing, abuse of capslock, and a liberal gloss of personal opinion (Such as: I don't DISLIKE Joss Whedon, but I'm terrified he'll disappoint me. I've been burned before! *shakes fist dramatically* If your opinion is that this makes me a horrible person, that's fine and I accept that, but you may not want to read the commentary). There are no naughty images, so as far as THAT goes, it's work safe...?
Hilarious "F*ck Yeah" Review Of Captain America: The First Avenger!
* Chris Evans! FUCK YEAH!
* Tommy Lee Jones! FUCK YEAH!
* Musical Number! WAIT, WHAT?
* Strangely Good! FUCK YEAH!
* Alan Menken! FUCK YEAH!
Six Awesome (Unofficial) "Minimalist" Posters For The Avengers!
* So, I totally WANT THESE. I would buy them and frame them and hang the on my wall.
Samuel L. Jackson Dishes On The Avengers Set Experience And Role Expansion!
* Samuel L. Jackson: "Someone stole my script and tried to sell it."
Polite British Reporter: "Really?"
Samuel GQMF L. Jackson: "Oh yeah, there was tons of trouble about it."
Polite British Reporter: "Where did you leave it?"
Samuel Baby Eater L. Jackson: "I didn't 'LEAVE. IT.' anywhere."
To which I can only guess the Polite British Reporter's response expression was something like O.O and then maybe ;_;
* Also, RDJ has been seen all over the place sporting his styling Tony Stark beard, but SLJ is clean shaven? O.o
Probably the most exciting/most nerve-wracking thing that has happened for the movie thus far is the announcement of Joss Whedon as director. Hijinks Ensue tells us why in: Avengers Get All Assembley!
* These are pretty much my fears, exactly.
* "You're fired. Forever."
* Now, I WANT to love the idea of Joss Whedon as director of The Avengers, I DO. It's just....when he sucks, he sucks hard. Come on, Joss Whedon! I know you can do it! Don't suck like you sometimes do!
Brian Bendis Praises The Avengers Script And Captain America: The First Avenger!
* I am sort of infant-baby-like into the comics!fandom, having only gained interest after watching the first Iron Man movie and then, like the good little slash fan I am, went looking for a hot guy to pair him with (starting with Rhodey and then moving to Bruce Wayne--mostly out of curiosity, because I think there'd be some really interesting interaction, there; then settling on Cap, of course.) so I am vaguely aware that there is some animosity toward Bendis for reasons that I am unsure of, but I've always enjoyed his writing--what I've read of it. Most importantly (to me), I usually like how he writes/characterizes Tony and Steve and Tony-and-Steve (and Thor!). So if HE says he thinks the script is amazing, then I feel hopeful.
* "I think it's the best thing Joss Whedon's ever written. I was in awe of it, and I still am." High praise! Better than Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog? Better than some episodes of Buffy and Firefly? If that's true then this will be AWESOME.
Joss Whedon Talks About The Future Of The Avengers; Teases Franchise Potential!
* "My main goal is: make a movie that's good. If possible, make a movie that's super-good. Don't try to make a movie that's great, because then it will be pretentious."
Joss Whedon Reveals The Avengers Comic Book Influences; Describes On Set Experiences!
* Blah, blah, Buffy season 9 comic book (which I am somewhat interested in, but that's not the point--although, crossovers, whee!!)
* Skip to 3:26 for The Avengers questions.
* I like this reporter. He seems geek enough to ask interesting questions.
* I like that Joss Whedon talks about geeking out on set, and even more squee-worthy (to me) is the idea of everyone geeking out over EACH OTHER.
* "'I'm hanging out with THOR.' 'I'm hanging out with IRON MAN.' 'I'm hanging out with CAPTAIN AMERICA.' 'You guys are GEEKS.'"
* "That guy has horns. I'm going with it!"
Joss Whedon on THE AVENGERS - "It's not just big... it's BIG!"
* This is the written version of one of the interviews already posted further up the list for people who cannot play the video.
* Most of note on this page, if you've already seen the interview, is the close up of Cap's new uniform. Gorgeous!
CAPTAIN AMERICA TO BE MODERNIZED FOR THE AVENGERS?
* Short little one-question interview, Chris Evans talks about Cap's main conflict in coming to the modern era. Not so much the technology, but the quieter, more human aspect.
* Although, I still want a few moments of Cap like, "What's EMAIL?"
Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant - Clip
"Agents Coulson and Sitwell face a problem in this clip from "Marvel One-Shot: The Consultant," available exclusively on the "Thor" Blu-ray on shelves September 13!"
* This. THIIIIIS. IT'S SO TOTALLY TONY STARK. I LOVE YOU, COULSON, AND I ALSO LOVE SITWELL, THOUGH I DON'T THINK HE'S BEEN IN ANY OF THE MOVIES, SO FAR.
* They are, apparently, planning at least two or three of these little movies featuring Agent Coulson which ties--or at least vaguely connects--all the movies together.
* That high-pitched sound you hear is my vocal chords attempting to put some kind of noise to my glee.
* EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
That is all.
Also III: The Return -- x-posted to my journal. Apologies to
nightwalker who therefore has to see this twice.

When I refer to "unknowingly", I mean in Asgard, when Loki is trying to do his save the day thing.

When I refer to "unknowingly", I mean in Asgard, when Loki is trying to do his save the day thing.
But who attacked him? Are you talking about Thor? Thor was trying to stop him from wiping out the Jotuns. It wasn't a case of Thor foolishly rushing in and stopping Loki from saving the day. Wiping out the Jotuns was a Bad Thing.
no subject
Yeah, by killing him. They make it pretty clear in the movie, by Thor's glazing open eyes and the frantic sobbing and so on, that Thor hasn't just got a booboo.

So, back on topic: Thankyou Kahn for these wonderful links, and I cannot wait for next May!

I thought this had been rather civil so far. Especially given what I actually think about film!Loki. However, I'm happy to leave it here.

We saw Loki kill his genetic father Laufey on screen while Odin was unconscious. Your interpretation is that Odin killed Loki's parents.
I'm sorry, that goes beyond subjectivity. You are discussing events that simply did not happen in this movie. I might as well say it's my interpretation that Loki made out with Agent Coulson in the movie. It just didn't happen.
If you don't want to discuss it anymore, that's fine, but please, be aware there is a difference between interpreting what happens on screen and just... making things up.

I just think there's a bit of a tendency to gloss over the bad things Loki did because he's angsty and insecure and charming. IMO, it's a disservice to the character - his fierce pride and cunning and ruthlessness are part of what makes him fascinating. (Like, I don't know if you've read the JMS run, where Loki was female for a good chunk of it - but it was the ambiguity of Loki's characterisation, the fact he could do good things but also terrible things, that gave him so much tension and depth. There was a great moment when he realised a particular plan had played out to be so much more damaging than he'd intended, and he was actually horrified by what he'd inadvertantly brought about. It was great.)
