For the second week of our Cap-Ironman 10 Years of MCU celebrations, we are looking at Steve’s origin, and also the first time that Steve and Tony meet! This week, we’ll be watching and discussing Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. Our heroes are growing, and coming together as a team (or at least trying to.)

A few ideas to kick off the discussion:
  • What what your favourite moment in Captain America and The Avengers?

  • What aspects of Steve’s character stand out to you?

  • What do you think is going through Steve and Tony’s heads the first time they meet?

  • Anything else you want to comment on!

If you haven't already, check out the amazing works created in homage to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers! If you're feeling inspired and would like to create tribute pieces of your own, we'd love to see it! Share it below, on the community, add it to the 10 Years of Cap-IronMan AO3 Collection, or post it on Tumblr with the tag #capim10yearsofmcu!

Because I love Steve Rogers very, very much, because I'm a dialogue obsessive and because I found him frustratingly hard to write, last year, after Captain America: The First Avenger came out, I made an audio dialogue file of all his most important lines.

Analyzed and linked here are Steve's most important lines of dialogue from Captain America: The First Avenger, as an aid to writers who want to write Movieverse Steve*. At less than 10% of the runtime of the movie, this counts as fair use for educational purposes.
This post was created with the transcription aid of [livejournal.com profile] yunafire.

Analysis:

Because Steve Rogers, even before the serum, never hesitates to tell anyone what he thinks, it's easy to miss the fact that he doesn't actually talk very much. He always makes his opinions known and he's happy to talk with friends, but he doesn't need as many words to do it. Captain America has fewer lines in his own movie than Black Widow has in The Avengers.

Because of this, and because it shows him in a wider variety of moods and contexts than The Avengers, I've decided to transcribe and analyze his dialogue in Captain America: The First Avenger instead of The Avengers.

Steve tends to speak in short, slightly choppy phrases and sentences, and is prone to dropping unnecessary words, particularly at the beginning of sentences. (Not always, but generally.) See: "You start running, they'll never let you stop. You stand up, push back. Can't say no forever, right?" and "Got hit, couldn't shake it." Much of the humor and emotional content of his speech is carried entirely by tone of voice, which, while not wildly dramatic, is extremely expressive. His joking tone is wry when he's feeling down, sly when he isn't and usually self-deprecating either way.

More analysis, a dialogue transcript and accompanying audio file here.

* All analysis is only intended to apply to Steve Rogers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not any other incarnation of Steve Rogers.

Hey, all. I just saw 'Avengers' again - yay! And I noticed something in one of the final scenes I hadn't the first time around (probably 'cause i was the only one there, whee!). When Tony and Pepper are looking at the Tower blueprints....

Cut for question and image.... )

My brother came across this on Reddit and linked it to me knowing how much of an Iron Man fan I am as well how much of a geek I am for Technology. One of the people who worked on the Iron Man HUDs posted stills of it as well as close ups of what it would look like from Tony's viewpoint and some breakdowns on what it all means. I want the DVD to come out now so I can pause and see if I can catch some of the changes.

Here's a picture of one of the Stills from Tony's viewpoint.

The detailed blow ups of the display are too large to link her and I'm too lazy to shrink em right now. I love the amount of detail and thought put in it all and wow can Tony Multi-task with that much info for him to parse.

Here's the link to the page: Avengers - jayse
You'll have to scroll past the heli-carrier consoles to see the Iron Man HUDs. At the very bottom the person who posted up the page wrote:

"This is just an image dump of marvel approved stills and screenshots of my work on the film. I'll do a proper post soon - this is a fraction of the work - But I had the distinct pleasure of working with Cantina Creative, leading the design of the glass screens for the Helicarier in the Avengers. I also led the design and animation of the all new and upgraded Mark VII Hud.
All work was done in Illustrator, After Effects and Cinema 4d.

Included are some partial explanations of how the HUD diagnostic functions
Variations of it in 'all clear' mode, and a 'battle mode', after the suit has suffered damage and new windows have popped up to show depleted weapon stores and hazardous environmentals and general.

The flight menu was designed with input from an A-10 Fighter Pilot. I like to keep my stuff accurate.

I start all designs on paper so I included some ideas for the dock icons. In the final icons, the more detailed versions show system status based on the way they animate.

More soon.

I'm very much looking forward to the more soon :P

Edited: Put the picture under a spoiler cut.

In this week's the West Australian TV guide I came across a rather well-written and informative article on the upcoming Avengers movie so decided to scan it for others to enjoy. And don't worry - you'll find no spoilers here!

There's a short section where they interviewed Chris Evans that's relevant to our interests. He professes his admiration and high regard towards Robert Downey Jr.'s acting prowess and delight to be working alongside him. To quote his exact words: "I grew up on Robert Downey Jr. The guy can do no wrong. He's one of the most talented actors on the planet. He just has this magnetic presence."

Another interesting factoid from the article is how Evans was reluctant at first to sign on for the role of Captain America "Initially, I was being asked to sign on for nine movies. It was later pushed down to six movies but that is still an enormous chunk of your life taken out to play one character.'' Still - 6 movies! Many more to look forward to!

Scans ahead - click them if you wish to see the bigger versions. Warning: those with slower internet connections take note these are large image files.

1. Welcome to the 21st century S2. With the generous help of [livejournal.com profile] tsukinofaerii, we have finally updated the layout to something a little more functional (it should look the same, just now it works). Everyone involved has jumped up and down on the code a fair bit, but do let us know if something's not working, and we'll try to fix it.

2. Cute little Tony/Steve interaction in the new Avengers TV Spot:

3. If you're signed up for the Cap/IM Reverse Bang, and haven't already done so, please pick a posting date.

For those of you in select cities in the US, AMC Theatres will be hosting a movie marathon beginning at 11:30am on May 3, showing Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America and finally culminating with the midnight release of the Avengers on May 4. In case that wasn't enough, you also get a free pair of character 3d glasses!

I already bought my tickets!

An upcoming Avengers comic, Avengers Assemble #1 - and interview with the artist, Mark Bagley.

I found this comment on Cap to be interesting:

"I try and depict him as the de facto leader that all the other Avengers naturally, maybe even subconsciously, defer to," he admits. "[Tony] Stark has a man crush on him. Thor just flat out respects him. Hawkeye would be jealous of him if he didn’t like and admire him so much. And [Black Widow] is smart enough to know Cap is the man—in a good way."

Bolding mine.

Can someone tell me what Natasha's saying?

This week's Entertainment Weekly has the first look at 'The Avengers', and the website released some new pictures to coincide with the announcement! I put the above picture above the cut because it's Steve/Tony but also because the cover itself is...not very good. A couple more pictures and the article under the cut.

Okay, you guys... I AM OBSESSED with this movie (and it won't come out for another year OMG). I go online and look up news articles about it almost every day. Sometimes, I even hit refresh a few times to see if anything is different. IT'S THAT BAD.

This is not, by any stretch, ALL the links I have pertaining to this movie, but they ARE the most recent. I was sort of gathering them behind a locked entry because I didn't want to inflict madness on anyone else, but FUCK THAT NOISE. COME JOIN ME IN MY CRAZY.

Also: THERE ARE PROBABLY SPOILERS IN HERE FOR ALL THE MARVEL MOVIES AND, OF COURSE, THE AVENGERS. I can't remember any, specifically, but be forewarned.

Also II: Son of Also -- Likely swearing, abuse of capslock, and a liberal gloss of personal opinion (Such as: I don't DISLIKE Joss Whedon, but I'm terrified he'll disappoint me. I've been burned before! *shakes fist dramatically* If your opinion is that this makes me a horrible person, that's fine and I accept that, but you may not want to read the commentary). There are no naughty images, so as far as THAT goes, it's work safe...?

Screw cookies. Our side has TONY STARK. )

That is all.

Also III: The Return -- x-posted to my journal. Apologies to [livejournal.com profile] nightwalker who therefore has to see this twice.
