Author's Notes: This is something of a sequel to “Secret Study Sessions (Or Studying With Tony is a Bad Idea)”. The title is a reference to Indiana Jones who has a fear/hatred of snakes. Plus, Hydra and Red Skull remind me a lot of the evil kind of snakes.

Also, this is a fill for the 'tentacles' square on my bingo card. With tentacles in the pic, I just couldn't resist killing two birds with one stone.

This fic contains Internet-translated Italian (with English translations at the end) because they didn't offer classes in Italian at any of the schools I attended or I probably would have taken them. If anyone who reads this actually knows Italian and can give me better or more accurate translations that would be great.

Notes: This was a story I'd had on my mind for quite a while and it changed so much from it's initial conception to the final product. The soul mate marks don't feature quite as much as I'd originally intended, but they do make something of an appearance and are kind of mainly responsible for everything kicking off. I'm sure the entire story would have gone a lot differently if there hadn't been any soul mate marks. I hope everyone enjoys it anyway.
A huge thank you to the mods of this wonderful fest (I got distracted several times by other stories written for it this year and I can't say I regret it) and to my artist, Krusca. I haven't seen your art yet, but I just know it's going to be amazing!

Fic Summary: An inconsequential touch during the attack on the Helicarrier is all it takes to send both Steve and Tony's lives spiraling out of control. While one tries to bury the truth, the other will stop at nothing to uncover it. And, while they have their own private battle of wills, a new supervillain is leading the Avengers on a merry chase.

Fic Summary: Sometimes Tony wonders what his life would have been like if he had never gone to Afghanistan. It would certainly be a lot less exciting, for one. Probably a hell of a lot shorter too. The amount of people out for his blood wouldn't have changed any, though, which can't be a good thing.

Steve just wants to know why the hell Tony is being so difficult about letting his team protect him when there is a crazy ex-weapons manufacturer on the loose. Of course, Tony doesn't even seem to care and it frustrates Steve to no end.

These are simply the crosses they bear, but, somewhere down the road, they might even learn to share their burdens.
