Cap 2 reaction and squee post

Seen Winter Soldier?  Want to talk about it?  This is the place!  We ask that you contain all movie discussion to the comments of this post.  Spoilers are of course welcome, so if you haven't seen it and don't want to be spoiled, proceed at your own risk.

It'll be awhile until I see it. The main spoiler I want is if Steve lives through it.

[identity profile] partytimexelent.livejournal.com 2014-03-26 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he lives through it, love, he's in Avengers 2 and there will be a Cap 3. Also, Chris Evans still has three movies to make as Captain America so you're safe.

Just got home from the cinema. Still processing somewhat, but it was awesome!

[identity profile] chariflame.livejournal.com 2014-03-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It was amazing. Best solo movie by far in my opinion, but it does go toe to toe with The Avengers... The cast ended up being so expansive that it felt like a Secret Avengers movie or something.

Those are the only coherent words I can really form. Everything else comes down to weeping over Bucky. The poor boy.

[identity profile] brushed-velvet.livejournal.com 2014-03-26 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
STEVE!FEELS!!! BUCKY!FEELS!!!

Ahem, on a more coherent note - I particularly loved:

Wingman Natasha
Steve's list of cultural media recommendations
Steve/Sam bromance
Steve/Natasha friendship
Steve/Bucky flashback
'Best girl' Peggy
Natasha teasing Steve about kissing
The moment Steve recognised Bucky
Fury being Fury
Sam - 'I do whatever he does, only slower.'
The return of the original uniform
The fight sequences
The action scenes
Falcon flying
Maria calling Steve by his name
Steve refusing to fight Bucky
All the heartfelt words Steve uttered to Bucky at the end
Bucky rescuing Steve
Bucky visiting the Cap exhibition at the Smithsonian

Oh, and finally...

STEVE!FEELS!!!
BUCKY!FEELS!!!

I HAVE FEELS I CAN'T DEAL WITH THEM OH MY GOD

"who the hell is bucky" AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
NATASHA!!! NATASHA AND STEVE BEING FRIENDS!
BUCKY CATCHING & THROWING THE SHIELD AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
(also "Stephen Strange" are you kidding me YES PLEASE)
and the after credits scene THE TWINS

[identity profile] el-gilliath.livejournal.com 2014-03-27 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)

Loved it so much! Natasha being there and so relevant to the plot notwithstanding. (err, apologizing to the people who like her but I dislike the character, she seems only a character-created-by-sexist-male to me and I can't get past that :( ). Agreed, the movie looked like a "Secret Avengers" movie instead of a Captain America movie, still I really enjoyed it. :D Bucky was <3 and Bucky and Steve interactions are some favorites about it! And some Sam scenes were good. Fury and Hill scenes too, particularly Maria's! (I'm so glad she got a part in it) Bourne Trilogy-like background music for the first half of the movie made me smile, considering the context of it in this Cap movie. :)

[identity profile] ah-lellu.livejournal.com 2014-03-27 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
Watched it last night, probably going to go watch it again soon.

Uh, LOVED it. I especially loved how, I don't know, friendship oriented it was, like there were jokes about Steve's love life (or the lack of), but it didn't have a romantic sub-plot. Instead it was about Steve and Natasha being cool and Steve and Sam being fun and about the Steve/Bucky feels and so on.

I liked how the bad guys were mostly Americans and from inside SHIELD.

God I loved Steve and Bucky's last fight scene and Steve falling and then Bucky dragging him out of the water.

I loved the actions scenes and how they really showed Steve's acrobatic and hand-to-hand skills.

What I didn't like. Well, I wondered why they say 'heil' (in the Heil Hydra) like English speaking people say 'hail', when it's German and should be 'heil' with the diphthong sounding the same as in word 'bye'. These things get to me.

I'm just really happy the movie delivered, because Steve's my favourite.

(Anonymous) 2014-03-27 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
Bucky reminded me of a lost, frightened bunny rabbit :3

[identity profile] clau-mol.livejournal.com 2014-03-27 11:40 am (UTC)(link)
I'm still an emotional wreck. I don't know what to do with myself, I have all the feels.

I knew the movie was going to be good but even I didn't expect it to be this good, it instantly became my favorite movie!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_samalander/ 2014-03-27 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved it, but as a DC native-- there's no way even a super soldier like Steve could live through being in the Potomac with that many open wounds. That water is freaking corrosive.

[identity profile] el-gilliath.livejournal.com 2014-03-27 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it, it with Awesome with a capital A.

I LOVE that they only had Nat/Steve friendship, and that Agent 13 wasn't overused. I hate Agent 13, she is a character that could be SO COOL but she's just used as Cap's girlfriend and that pisses me off.

I did find it slightly weird that they didn't try to contact any other Avengers for help, most of all Hawkeye. But then again, we don't know much about what has been happening there in between the movies. Them not being contacted in IM3, get it cause he was supposed to be dead, Thor, they were in London, but this was about SHIELD. SHIELD! And also in DC.

As a comic reader I am probably reading way too much into it, but it still didn't quite fit for me. But Bucky was amazing, so I am willing to let it all pass me by. Cause.... Bucky <3 And Falcon <3

[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com 2014-04-04 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
The minute they came up against something that needed decrypting by someone they could trust, why weren't they giving it to Tony and JARVIS? Ditto when they needed to stop the helicarrier satellite linkup. This movie was fabulous, but when the world's at stake, it's really hard to justify not assembling the Avengers post the first Avengers movie.

- Fury's headstone!! "The path of the righteous man... Ezekiel 25:17." Because Fury is one bad motherfucker.

- Fury's car chase. Man, his pimped up Fury-mobile (in theory) was all kinds of awesome, and he drove like that with a broken arm. Bad. Ass.

- Steve visiting Peggy. Broke my heart. Steve, you sweet, wonderful, goober. "My best girl still owes me a dance." *heartface*

- I want to know which guy Peggy ended up marrying! I want [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge's I Shall Not Want Honor In Heaven to be MCU canon!

- Falcon was perfection. I loved every scene he was in. The whole "I do whatever he does, only slower" was the actual best. I love that they addressed PTSD through him, and dealt with it respectfully. I love that he thought bringing Captain America to his place of business would convince a girl to like HIM. :D

- Black Widow and Maria Hill. Bad ass ladies being bad-ass! When that posh British World Security Council lady started kicking butt, I was thrilled! It was almost a let-down that it was Natasha, but then again, of course it was. :) I loved that Hill got a bit more screen time. I loved that Natasha wasn't reduced to a love interest, and we got to see her grappling with the morality of the spy business.

- I really enjoyed Robert Redford. He came out of hiding, lent his big name to a "silly" franchise, and played the bad guy. I was really surprised. I thought it was a genius move.

- I was heartbroken that they'd use Sitwell like this. Only the really hardcore fans knew about him, and he was out before he hardly got in the door. Boo. It could've been anyone but him.

Argh, so many things and I still think I've left out something even more amazing and important. I loved the whole thing, start to finish.

Hah! Me, too! I was all on board with some Helen Mirren RED-style action.

I was heartbroken that they'd use Sitwell like this.

Yes, again. When I came out of the theatre I wailed, "Sitweeeeeell!" D:

Does anyone have issues with the whole worldbuilding in MCU after the movie? I did enjoy it much more than I expected, and there were so many little things I loved, most of them mentioned by guys above, but the move was very very disquieting to me. I'd love to know the official time frame for phase 2, to make sense out of it. And where do Agents of SHIELD fit into this? I really really hope we get some answers (in the next few episodes maybe?) because the movie just creates questions and leaves a very vague impression of what's going to happen now, and disturbs the whole frame MCU was built on.

And Sitwell. I just reuse, refuse to believe that, how could they?

Speaking of AoS, I've heard the episode on 8th April is supposed to be super spoilery for Cap 2, so it will probably clean some things up a bit.

I was jazzed as soon Batroc the Leaper showed up and stayed that way. I know the Steve/Bucky shippers are going to LOVE this one.

The movie is AMAZING! I have the opportunity to watch it on the first day of it showing in my country and let me tell you, the theater is full! I love how it show steve visiting smithsonian and how steve and natasha looks comfortable in their bromance... their banter after natasha kicked sitwell from the top of the building is GOLD!...

Also am I the only one who thought steve looks like gonna cried even when he tried to smile while he's visiting peggy because peggy's sudden "sometimes remember him, sometimes not and thinks they just met again"...

And I was kinda wait, that annoying senator stern from iron man 2 is hydra member!...

There's a lot stark name dropping and stark/avengers tower blink and you miss it cameo!... brucey and doctor strange name dropping!...

Steve and everyone is also BADASS!!!... I swear the girls sitting next to me, while they watch the movie with their boyfriends, all squeal in delight watching that scene with steve wear his white tank top at falcon's house, which I'm perfectly understand, since chris evans looks hot and huge in those!...

Kinda wish it is not actually sitwell and actually LMD with one of zola AI pose as sitwell...

About clint barton, I read an article elsewhere after I watch the movie that we should notice a scene when right before cap, falcon and maria breaking into shield, there's two shield agents who mentioned that hawkeye apparently is still in afghanistan by that moment? I dunno if it's true, I need and already plan to watch this movie again for the second time this weekend!

And yes, even as steve/tony shipper, I have to admit that this movie did bring a lot for steve/bucky shipper (that last heartfelt moment when steve said he'll go with bucky to the end). it's okay though, since I love steve/bucky bromance and I'll just keep wishing for the avengers age of ultron to fulfil my steve/tony moments quota instead!

[identity profile] green-grrl.livejournal.com 2014-04-04 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, so good! Steve&Sam! Steve&Natasha! Steve&Natasha&Sam! Steve&Buuuuuuuuckyyyyyy!!! Fury! Maria!

Jasper, nooooooooooooo!

I'm not sure what to make of Natasha's story about coming up against Winter Soldier in Iran. I'm a Natasha/Bucky shipper, so I'm hoping for their comics 'verse shared background in the Red Room, but I'm never sure what will make it into MCU. (And I get why Sam doesn't have a real bird in this somewhat more "real" universe, but I miss that.)

There was a big laugh in my theatre when Stan Lee showed up and found the naked Cap dummy. :D

[identity profile] enmuse.livejournal.com 2014-04-04 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I know I wrote this above, but my first question posted after I left the theatre was: Did Whedon get Jossed?

Phrased slightly more coherently, is SHIELD legitimately being taken out of play? Is Agents of SHIELD going to be like... The Ex-Agents? (IDK, I'm not very crafty with names.)

My full reaction post is here: http://enmuse.livejournal.com/141970.html in case anyone's interested. Very much loved the movie, though. Still need to sort out what I'll actually file into my MCU headcanon since the movie wrought major changes that totally screw with various fic plans I have. I don't want to ignore everything in this film, though, because unlike IM3, the material they gave us to work with is pretty awesome.

Anyway, I also Accidentally Meta-Fic'ed by way of dialogue as Tony meets up with Sam and Steve post-film. (http://enmuse.tumblr.com/post/81711066120/spoilers-so-i-wrote-a-dialogue) Yes I am plugging myself.

I need fic now.

[identity profile] dorothy-notgale.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Late to the party, but OMG LOVED IT.

Fury's tombstone! Fury's car! Fury's extra retinal scan!

Sam being so incredibly awesome!

Natasha kicking ass and releasing names!

All the Steve and Bucky feels!

Batroc Ze Leapair!

Was anybody else squeeing over the necklace Natasha wore through most of it? It has a little arrow, and the possible nod to Hawkeye just gave me the warm friendship fuzzies.

[identity profile] b7-kerravon.livejournal.com 2014-04-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
Loved Natasha's arrow

LOVED the portrayal of Falcon

Did not love what they did to Sitwell, but.... LMD? Hmmm... He DID seem awfully wooden for the most part...

As an aside, did anyone notice all the targets the third helicarrier was bringing up before it blanked? I'm going to get the DVD just so I can go through that bit frame-by-frame. I am sure I saw Stark Tower with a single target picked out in the penthouse...

[identity profile] squeeful.livejournal.com 2014-04-09 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, it's the Tower, but it's sporting the Avengers "A" now. The target inside is indeed one Anthony Edward Stark in the penthouse.

It just kind of occurred to me that the picture of young Howard Stark was shown in the news clipping announcing his death, rather than John Slattery-Howard Stark.

I just wanted to put that out there.

(Anonymous) 2014-04-27 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
This is true. I thought it was kind of weird too, since when newspaper announcing about someone death they usually shown his/her newest pic.

Unless there's a clairvoyant inside SHIELD whos able predicting and printing about howard's death, I'm guessing here the crew of CA: TWS pick that picture of young howard to remembrance for the actor who play howard in CA: The First Avengers or for the audience who already saw that first Cap movie but haven't saw Iron Man's and not familiar with john slattery's howard...
