Yikes, I do not remember this 'greatest defender' moment that everyone's talking about haha, but I thought it was a pretty decent movie! Given the pt. 2 set photos and all, they are clearly gearing up for a United We Stand scenario after this one failed. I think Tony's conversation in the beginning with Pepper about dreams and reality mixing up was significant...and possibly foreshadowing??

Anyway, good moments: The Phone Drama--my god, it was gay. Tony stuttering over how he and Steve aren't talking and Bruce in total disbelief. Steve's longing expressions of longing. I do wish Tony and Stephen got along...like Tony has spent 6 years planning defense and begging everyone to get in on it, so why make him douchey and hostile at Dr. Strange when shit's actually going down? @mcu end this trope

My mans Tony and Thor stopping moons and reigniting stars with their damn body!!! About damn time Thor was a god, but I really enjoyed IM's physical fights with Thanos. He basically utilized every military tactic from Roman legion to futuristic lasers and it was ~~perfect~~.

I also enjoyed the team back on Earth, how back-to-back and united everyone was without creepily setting Steve up as the head of Wakanda's armies or whatever. Cackled at Steve and T'challa nyooooming it before the armies.

OKOYE'S JUDGEMENT FACE when Bruce tripped in the Hulkbuster omg!!

Not sure what was up with Thanos' backstory tho? I don't understand how to feel about it, so imma just leave it. I didn't expect the ending, but it was more confounding than emotional, really. Definitely had a 'ooh wonder what's gonna happen next' feel to it, so I'm not too broken up. All in all, it left me wanting the Avengers 4! <3

I saw on tumblr it was actually best defender. I thought Steve said greatest, but in my defence I was hardly incoherent when I wrote that XD

Yes. It was my 2nd fav Thor after Thor 1. I thought he was treated very properly, as a god. And that show of power in Wakanda is just. Damn.
I know nothing about military tactic, I wish I could so I could swoon more XD But yeah Tony was magnificent and crazr brave and even Thanos was impressed. I'm so proud of him.

OKOYE'S JUDGEMENT FACE when Bruce tripped in the Hulkbuster omg!!

XDDD
When I saw that Hulk Buster, I wondered what Steve felt like, seeing that familiar armor so close but Tony's not there T_T

Haha, same for me. I squeed out loud in the theater, but it was so fast and I had all the feels at once about it.

Oh god, why do you give me these feels????

Oh oh and when he walked the halls of the compound, what if so many things reminded him of Tony and maybe he went into Tony's office/ rooms before they flew to Wakanda, just because.

Ayyyy, and here I thought I had no stevetony feels for this movie. For real tho, Evans did PERFECT in this movie, just with Cap's physical nuances, just like AoU. I remember when they were talking about getting the stone out of Vision, and he said he knew somebody, I really expected him to say 'Tony' instead of Shuri because his expression was so longing. I love the idea that he keeps having to remind himself that he has to think of Tony alternatives.

I wonder how many times he Steve ran into a situation and thought, I should get Tony and--oh.

YES I love this. Tony alternatives XD
Not to mention coming back to the compound and seeing Tony in every single inch of it. No wonder he was so sullen and looking sad the whole time T_T

That is one line Steve says to Ross when he and the rest step into the compound. I don't know why, but it stood out to me then!

Yes, I agree that this is basically the build up, now that we had "divided we fall", they can finally get together and fight back and swing this around.

That is an interesting point about that scene with Pepper. I'm going to see it again later, and I think I'll have to pay more attention to what's said there.

I loved Tony employing all the tactics and the way he utilized all the tools at his disposal against such an enemy. I just LOVED the fight scenes with him in this. And the suit is so perfect. T_T

And Thor - he had such sad, sad moments and that made all his awesome god moment EVEN BETTER!! I loved what they did with him, so much.

I also enjoyed the team back on Earth, how back-to-back and united everyone was without creepily setting Steve up as the head of Wakanda's armies or whatever.

I agree. That was very well handled!

OKOYE'S JUDGEMENT FACE when Bruce tripped in the Hulkbuster omg!!

I loved it! XD

I'm waiting till this weekend to watch it again-- I'll look out for that scene!

Fucking hell @ Thor's whole arc in IW. Like, I really want him and Tony to give each other an extra large hug bc Tony's gonna bear the burden of losing 1/2 of earth and Thor is the absolute last of his people left (except for wherever Sif and Valkyrie are).

Interesting point about Tony and Pepper's conversation at the beginning! I was too caught up in the content to think about the dream part being significant. Might be a red herring, but still intriguing. ETA: You know, I actually think this points towards the fact that Tony's vision from AoU and his worst nightmares in the wake of New York actually came true in this very movie.

I didn't mind the Tony and Strange interactions, I thought they had a lovely little arc in this - I mean, Tony didn't actually know Strange at all before this and to suddenly be confronted with his worst nightmare and to have this slightly arrogant guy who deals in magic of all things? He's certainly going to be on the defensive for a bit. But I loved that they had actual discussions about plans, that somewhere in the middle, Tony told him very clearly "I've had this guy in my head for six years, this is my plan [to confront Thanos on his own planet to keep him away from earth], but I'm not sure it's the best one, what do you think?" That was great and exactly the kind of thing I wanted from Tony.

And Tony's new suit was awesome indeed, loved the use of nano-technology.

I just wanted to say how much I agree with every word of this! I just saw it again and this time it even hit me harder that despite them being confrontational Tony turns it around by laying out his reasons for not jumping right into action to get them back to earth. When he asks, "Doctor, do you concur?" that in itself is such a profound character moment. And then Strange lays out how his first duty is to protect the Infinity Stone whatever happens to Peter or Tony - and that is such an important character moment for him, and I loved how it ends with Tony basically agreeing. ("Good, moral compass.")

It's all so fraught with tension, but I think it is very strongly built around the foundations of these characters and explains why the end up working pretty well together pretty quickly - even though they're not friends.

Yes, all of this! I generally loved that, given how much stress he was under, Tony was comparatively clear and open about his own thoughts and emotions and how they might be affecting him? Trying to keep his head and taking in everything that was happening and that other people were saying. Guy has done some soul-searching over the last few years me thinks.

Also, re: Tony laying out his reasons - they made so much sense for him. Civil War especially was all about the collateral damage that fighting on earth does and he just saw parts of New York getting damaged again - of course he'd try to have the battle somewhere else.

"Good, moral compass."

Yes. Loved that moment. And he was so caught on the wrong foot when Strange didn't seem to honour that later.

I really loved that despite all the sniping between Strange and Tony, there was this moment of genuine care when Tony rushed over to him, when Stephen was locked in his hell-vision of all the millions of futures. And Tony, who can spot a panic attack from a mile away, thinks that's what's happening and calls out to him something like "You're okay, you're back!" This is to a guy he doesn't like at all. Tony just cares SO MUCH.

OKOYE'S JUDGEMENT FACE when Bruce tripped in the Hulkbuster omg!!

The best.

Oh and about the dreams/reality conversation with Pepper, I thought it was meant to foreshadow the way his nightmare came through. He explicitly says that he had Thanos in his head for years, so now it became a reality.

(Also Pepper's little grab for his hand when Strange showed up was really good too. She's SO not ready for what happens next.)

It's around the time when they head to the compound, I think? (I only saw it once). But like, everyone had a shot of Tony's photo on TV so people know he went up into space along with the alien ship.

And then when they head back to the compound either when Steve is talking to Ross or around that time, he just says that (about the best defender... )

Yeah idk, I have no memory of this! People were quoting it on tumblr and I didn't even know Steve'd said it, much less about Tony. Haha, I suppose I have no choice but to see it again :DD

(I have to resist for a week or so, to let it settle before I see it again with fresh eyes)

Agreed with everyone else pretty much.

I think Thanos’s plan is dumb but idk if that was intentional or not. He claims to be doing everyone a favor by killing half the universe but that’s going to have major consequences. Power vacuums, Civil Wars(not the Marvel kind), loss of a good chunk of the work force, new orphans with no source of income, those are all just as bad for society as overpopulation could be. Not to mention there’s nothing stopping overpopulation from happening again assuming the other stuff doesn’t kill everyone first.

Then again he is the “mad Titan” so like maybe we were supposed to find his plan completely illogical and insane? Idk how I feel

[personal profile] adarksweetness 2018-05-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah...I don't think much logic was going into his plan. And I swear I will only forgive the tears and the long-ass backstory if Gomora and Nebula get to stab him in the end. Otherwise, that was a waste of screentime which could have gone to Steve and Tony longing for each other.
