Nah, I wouldn't say you're late to the party per se. They released this as a teaser image about a month ago, but then revealed that it would be a "What If". Funny the things Marvel can do to mess with its fans. LOL. A lot of people went crazy before they revealed exactly what the pic was about.

That is the most blatant romance novel-style cover I have ever seen. I am waiting for Steve to grow a pair of wings and lift Tony into heaven while a choir of angels sing.

I just remember it because I still want to write "Love in the Time of Skrulls". (I never will, because I know it would consist half of pure, undiluted angst and half them dancing through a field like the opening to "Sound of Music".)

. . . That said I've been a fan of the random What If thingies so I'll probably pick it up.


For whatever reason those are usually well told stories.
It's like Marvel goes HEY! here's this totlaly random thing that won't have anything to do with main canon . . . let's take the power inhibitors off our writers so they can use their writing powers and produce a good story, but then if they think about main canon at all slap the inhibitors back on. .

(I have ot go with power inhibitors. I've seen the work of some of these writers. They can write. But they can't write for Marvel. It's like they start writing for Marvel and the writign powers are drained away. I'm sure there's a plot of Doom's behind all this)

See... ok... first off PHEW I'm glad that's what it turned out to be glad you posted it! I also forgot it was (allegedly) coming out so soon...

Second, as long as it is just a WHAT IF then hells YEAH I'm glad. Don't get me wrong Tony is my favorite--hands down, cute little robo-toes down, etc--but I'd like someone ELSE to be sad about HIM for once. My dream for this is a total angst fest in which Cap and hopefully others are sad. What would be the awesomest thing ever? If Cap makes a little speech. Like the Confession. I doubt that will happen. But that would be awesome.

This is also what I would do with my My Little Ponies when I was a kid. Actually I think it was the plot of an MLP movie. Grr we all hate her! Oh no she's dead/missing. WE ARE SO SAD WE DID NOT APPRECIATE HER AND NOW FEEL HORRIBLY GUILT-RIDDEN!

It's the classic "you'll all feel sorry when I'm gone!" thing. I am a sucker for it.

You may have a point there. But knowing a certain community on LJ, people will just go, "YAY HE'S DEAD THE WICKED WITCH IS DEAD" instead of missing him. Tony's been too demonized in 616 for this guilt thing to work effectively.

That's why I want the writers to stop raping his character and make him a HERO again before they retcon Extremis or some other bunghole retard idea.

That is true. I was hoping that the skrull business would let him be a hero again. Or rather, appreciated as such. Silly me. To be fair, I might be behind one issue.

I've given up on people who hate him, they will never get it. I do care (because I am lame) about how people in the comic books feel about him and that is so frustrating. I have sad little hopes for the Spider-Man n' Iron Man issue of Invincible Iron Man coming up soon. If it's just Peter saying "you suck" over and over again I'm going to go crazy.

I guess after SI, they'll probably drive Tony to the ground and he'll have to rebuild again (his sense of self, his reputation, his business, etc), then for him to be eventually integrated into superheroing again.

It's sad when Ultimate Ironman Tony seems to be having a better time than 616 IM. I'm actually liking Ulitimate IM - and I hate that line, because most of the characters there are well... quite obnoxious.
