I have been doing it for ages and ages now. It is very relaxing and I really only get two paintings a year done because I have no time. But it makes me happy and I think that's all that counts. I've done Steve and Tony as well as Steve and Bucky (as WS). I also did Thor but that painting was destroyed. I do have pics of all of them. :)

Wow, oil painting! That takes a lot of patience. I never tried, but I'd like to do it one day.

What does bird watching entail? I get the general gist of it, but do you go to a specific place and look out for certain birds? Do you have a list of birds you want to see? Do you just like sitting on a bench and seeing all the birds fly by? I never really thought about what went into doing it because, well, the activity name is self-explanatory. Now I'm curious.

Bird watching right now for me is less active than I would like it to be. I would love to go hiking and look for birds (I love to look for hawks, owls, etc). But I am mostly restricted watching my feeders as well as going on walks on our property (we have 6 acres). We have hawks, owls, and eagles around here. We get tons of song birds - so beautiful.

LET'S TALK ABOUT THIRTEEN! Love her. She's her own Doctor, but it's amazing how much she reminds me of previous incarnations without feeling like she's not her own person, you know? I stopped watching it for a while, so seeing the Doctor again and seeing all the new AND the familiar made me happy.

I know what you mean! I LOVE HER SO MUCH and the group of companions is growing on me too! I'm enjoying myself so much with her - and despite Capaldi having catapulted himself right to the top of my Doctors. She clicked for me faster than many other regeneration.

I missed Capaldi's Doctor because I stopped watching the show before I got to him and I remember people saying that it took a while for him to find his footing (writing-wise?), I think...but people ended up REALLY liking him when I checked up on stuff about Thirteen and people mentioned him. :0 I know he's a big fan of the show, but that's all I know about him when it comes to DW!

I never felt that way with Capaldi. I had more trouble with Matt Smith. Capaldi is like he epitome of what I wanted from a Doctor and he did it from the start, but I think he (like a good chunk of the Eleven run) didn't get strong stories that played to his strength in the beginning - and because of the way he was written as a harsher in the post-regeneration phase he got a bit of what makes people dislike Six to this day. (And man, I've come to love Six very hard.) He got much funner stories later and his last season with Bill was a good combination.

BUT THIRTEEN! SO GOOD! I find her energy very infectious.

YES, KITTY IS MAYBE TOO RELAXED IN THE PICTURE. For a senior who is a little terror whirlwind very often, that is.

It really shaped how I see them and write their relationship, honestly.

Steve is SO emotionally invested in what Tony's doing/going to do/decides generally, and whenever Tony ~disappoints him or whatnot he always throws such a fucking fit, or he sulk endlessly, or both, and it's like WOW, dude, wow, yeah. XD And that's super on display in Casualties of War--he's so focused on "why are you doing this, Tony" like WHY ARE YOU LETTING ME DOWN/DISAGREEING WITH ME, he's so upset by it, while Tony's more trying to actively persuade him/explain himself in a lot of ways.

YES which is why i love it so much... steve is just such an idealist and he can't fathom how tony could not agree with him and there's this layer underneath it all as though he's sure he's done something to make tony want to act like that and disappoint him and i just absolutely love the angst that stems from this... the difference between the way we think the people we love are, and how they actually are. i just fucking love it okay i swear i'm fine (i'm not)

Yes, God, exactly. He really is like "but I'm doing the RIGHT thing, Tony, so why . . . ." and right? There's an undercurrent of that during the Armor Wars and Kree Supreme Intelligence thing, too, that whole acting as if he's sure he's done something to make Tony want to act like that, but it really has its max expression in Civil War, I think, and just. God, right? I think Steve often like . . . sees Tony differently than he is (despite how much he does love him). And just. Yes. Yes!

I know absolutely nothing about medieval manuscripts. What made you get into them? What's your favorite? What do you do to learn more about them? Go to museums? Follow certain people on Tumblr/Twitter/somewhere? :O

haha i'm glad they were popular with someone lol, they don't usually get many notes. almeno tu as well is way less popular than everyone who already knows it thinks it is :D

about the manuscripts: i've loved the middle ages since i was a teenager, but i got seriously into manuscripts at uni. basically, i got a degree in them lol. my favorite is the lindisfarne gospels, but it's a very obvious choice. it's gorgeous though, so i don't care. i want everyone to love it. i had the absolute pleasure of seeing it for real (it's at the british library) and i got so emo. i also have a very soft spot for the chi rho page from the book of kells--hugely famous, but it's the first manuscript i saw and it made me fall in love with them. also gorgeous: the codice trivulziano 1083, which contains dante's comedy with stunning illustrations. also the vaticano latino 3195, containing petrarca's canzoniere--so precise, tidy, so easy to read. to learn more about manuscripts you can definitely go to museums, but i also read a lot of books. there's a very active community of philologists and medievalists on twitter and i share their tweets very often. some of them are also on tumblr, and i reblog their stuff too, but tumblr right now is what it is lmao.

The first chapter or so is up on AO3, while the rest languishes in WiP hell because I need to get around to getting my laptop's keyboard fixed.

WWII was actually one of my fannish interests long before I discovered comics - my first major original fic project I wrote as a 13-year-old was a weird fantasy/historical fiction mash-up about my Mary Sue discovering that she was an unwanted fairy changeling (like, the one the fairies leave behind) and then joining the WAAF where she used her second sight ability to be The Very Best Ever at reading radar screens.

That's a cool set up for a story. My interests and AU in teenage years went more to the 18th century or Renaissance settings. WWII was only something that came to the front of my historical interests as an adult (which I suppose considering how often it's brought up in school here isn't surprising.) Writing fic has certainly given me more of a fannish interest in it.

Expensively :p The Yule release has an entire line up of Gingerbread scents, and I have to narrow my purchase down to one! (I doubt any will be the holy grail of wonderful that was Gingerbread, Vetiver & Black Clove or the Chocolate Espresso Gingerbread bath oil, but I have high hopes).

It's so true. It's like, "Ugh my soul! ...more please!" Civil War is why I'm so annoyed by their relationship in MCU. Like, we're supposed to believe that these two people care enough about each other to make Civil War anything other than a weirdly dramatic political debate? Where in MCU canon have we had any bonding? Minor, maybe, but much deeper relationships with other Avengers on both sides. The depth of emotion in comics!Civil War versus MCU!Civil War is split by a divide that would impress the Grand Canyon. I've always wanted to go back to Avengers and just sort of rewrite it all -- platonically even -- just for MCU!Civil War to make sense. They try so hard to make it look like this emotional thing between Cap and Tony, and it just isn't!

It's been nuts what tumblr's been flagging, thank you, glad you like the art, there's a 'naughty' version of this on my teepublic site. Every year I do an image for the holidays for patrons at my patreon site.

It was surprisingly easy to become a guide and interpreter, I just had to volunteer! (and be willing to cram on the history of the fort that I'm working at) as for antiques, I find a lot of them on facebook marketplace for a lot less than in antique stores because people are moving and they are less than perfect, but a lot of times they just need a good clean!
