2020 Rec Week: First Five Friday!

Share your firsts with us! The first 5 fanworks that made you fall in love with Steve/Tony, the first 5 people you subscribed to, the first 5 works that you created, the first 5 collabs you did with others in the fandom… Today is First Five Friday, and we are asking you to rec all your firsts so that everyone else can enjoy them! We welcome recs for fics, artwork, podfics, vids, manips, edits and more!

Note: Please mark major warnings for your recs, and let us know why you’re reccing a work.


2020 Rec Week Themes and Schedule

All New Monday, June 15th: Recently posted works that feel like they were created in 2012.
Tropey Tuesday, June 16th: "Team movie nights!" Come and rec works that have your favourite tropes.
What-If Wednesday, June 17th: Time to rec some AUs! Canon divergence, no-power alternate universes, soulmates… send them all in!
Tell-All Thursday, June 18th: Tell us about your highlights of 2012 or your favourite moments of canon, and share why you love Steve/Tony! Explainers welcome.
First Five Friday, June 19th: Share your firsts with us! The first 5 fanworks that made you fall in love with Steve/Tony, the first 5 people you subscribed to, the first 5 works that you created, the first 5 collabs you did with others, the first 5 anything!
Not-Fic Saturday, June 20th: A rec day highlighting fanworks like moodboards, manips, fanvids, podfics and artworks!
Cap-IM Sunday, June 21st: Rec all your favorite works created for a cap-ironman challenge!

There are several different ways to participate:

• Comment with your recs on the themed daily posts that will go up on our Dreamwidth and Livejournal communities. (Anon commenting allows everyone to participate, even if they don’t have an account.)


• Reply to a day's Tumblr post that will go up on our Cap-Iron Man Tumblr with your recs.


• Make a Tumblr post with your recommendations, mention the @cap-ironman Tumblr and tag it with #capimrecweek within the first five tags on the post (you can DM or email us the link as well). Please include the day’s theme somewhere in the body of the post. On the dedicated day we will reblog posts for the day’s theme on our community Tumblr and later include them in 2020 Rec Week masterlist.

Didn't have an AO3 account when I started reading Steve/Tony fic and didn't really keep track of other stuff I looked at either, so I'll go with the first five Steve/Tony works I bookmarked once I finally did get an account:


Catastrophe, Consequences, Clash by Laireshi (MCU, 1.245 words)
Summary: It was anything but a surprise then, when, finally, Steve took Tony’s face into his hands and kissed him like he’d never kissed him before; no more secrets between them in this new universe which survived the apocalypse.
“I think, even after everything,” Steve whispered against Tony’s lips, “I know you, Tony Stark.” He stepped away. “If you think you can see a way, you’ll find it. You’ll save them. You’ll save us.”
Comment: Post-IW Steve/Tony fix-it. I always thought that the set-up at the end of the movie was pretty great for fix-its and this was one of the earliest I enjoyed.


Strange Mechanics by Navaan (MCU, 1.405 words)
Summary: Steve is hell bent on ending Hydra before it's too late. Right before he leaves he meets a strange mechanic on base.
Comment: Still love this little fic. The set-up is great: seeing things through Steve's eyes, but, knowing more of the universe than he does, still getting glimpses of the time-travel that's happening in the background.


'The Fire in Your Eyes' Illustrations by Hundredthousands (Noir)
Summary: Art for 'The Fire in Your Eyes' by Veldeia [as part of the 2018 Cap-IM RBB event].
Comment: One of my favourite RBB art posts ever. It's so gorgeous, distinctive in style and colour scheme, fits the fic so perfectly, and has this internal progression - just, all great.


The Fire in Your Eyes by Veldeia (Noir, 45.016 words)
Summary: Captain America is assigned the task of solving a mystery case of arson with possible superhuman involvement. The billionaire adventurer Tony Stark seems somehow related to the case, and Steve needs to figure out whether he's a victim, or perhaps the culprit—without getting too distracted by his charm.
Comment: The corresponding fic for the art above, a wonderful and atmospheric adaptation of the Extremis plot for the Noir universe, wrapped up in a detective story.


Gasoline by Garrideb (616, vid)
Summary: A comics fanvid set during the run on Iron Man when Tony was the Director of SHIELD, had his Extremis powers, and was frequently hallucinating the ghosts of his dead friends.
Comment: Such a classic 616 vid in my mind. Still amazing.
