Cap and Iron Man Sequel Movie Speculation Post!

So the Avengers might be the next movie to be out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and maaaaan! I am so eager for it) but Iron Man #3 and Captain America #2 have already been set in stone as sure things.

As of now, all we know is that Iron Man #3 is almost certainly going to have the Mandarin as a villain (but then they've been setting him up since way back in Movie #1 with the Ten Rings terrorist outfit) and that Captain America #2 is going to be set in present day with WWII flashbacks only.

But what are you looking forward to seeing in these movies? Any characters you want to see or certain specific story-lines you have in mind? Obviously nothing we discuss is going to have much of an effect on what actually happens, of course, but I thing it's a fun thing to discuss!

+ Iron Man #3

     

      >> Firstly of course, the Mandarin, but the Mandarin as the Knaupfs re-invented him for the DoS run - a ultra-smart businessman, calm instead of prone to fly into rages. Someone who is a concrete threat to Tony. 

     >> Secondly of course there needs to be an upgrade to Tony's armor. The second movie gave us the Armor-inna-Suitcase so (un)fortunately the only step forward to go, in a way that makes cinematic difference is the Extremis Armor. I really don't want Fraction's 'Bleeding-Edge' crap (it literally makes his invincible if used intelligently and while Fraction may not be smart enough to use it to the full potential, Tony certainly is... Yes, I'm aware that this is a very silly sentence. I will still stick to it. Like glue. :P) just the original Extremis. This means a mild healing factor (only plot related) and the whole internet-in-his-head shtick. 

     >> Extremis is awesome because this plot-line not only gives us the 'new armor' part for Iron Man Essentials, but also the third thing, the 'Real Villain' aka Tony's issues. After all RDJ might be really really hot, but a young flower he is not. Tony himself is supposed to be something like approaching (or having crossed) 40 in the movie. Perfect time for a bit of a mid-life crisis. Tadah! Extremis!

     >> Of course, the Extremis would be a good way to bring in Maya Hansen, again possibly in a mish-mash of the DoS storyline with Maya unknowingly (or knowingly) working with the Mandarin.

+ Captain America #2

     >> Well, my first thing is what I don't want. I don't want Winter Soldier in Movie #2. Which is not to say I don't want it, I just want it to be left for the inevitable Movie #3. The whole shock of Bucky coming back etc. is felt much more keenly when there has been time to reflect on his loss. Again not to say, I want the movie to be lacking Bucky. Since the movie is supposed to have quite a few flashbacks, I'm hoping they'll use the flashbacks to build more of a rapport between Steve and Bucky (something sorely missing in Movie #1) and Steve angsting all over about Bucky and Peggy, but no Winter Soldier just yet.

     >> Sam Wilson aka The Falcon. TOTALLY want this partnership, although I will scream if Sam Wilson-was-a-thug is used instead of social worker.  And of course Sharon. It seems the Agent in his room at the end was Sharon and also that the writers are well aware how inherently creepy Steve/Sharon is on the heels of Steve/Peggy,, so hopefully a better take on it than comics (and Brubaker) managed.

     >> Villain could be the Red Skull Returned! or Baron Zemo leading the Hydra. I like both ideas. But I don't really have any ideas with iconic Cap storylines. Hmm...

I absolutely loved Peggy and I'd love it if they could find a way to make her present in the next CA movie. We can dream!

Extremis is the only way they can go, I think. Maybe? Man, who knows in Hollywood. Extremis would certainly make a lot of sense - but I have to admit, I'd like to see him going through (some of) that storyline with the other Avengers around him. Maybe it could start in IM3 and have repercussions in Avengers 2?

As you can tell, I don't really know what I want ;D Definitely Peggy! Definitely references to each other. Maybe seeing either of their childhoods in some detail? I REALLY don't want them to be Civil War-ish *eyes Joss Whedon*

YES to Peggy. I'm hoping she'll be the flashback part. (Also cameos of Howard in the flashback and Tony in the 'present' possibly either reacting very similarly to similar things or very differently, would be hilarious!)

Maybe the Avengers can have cameos too. I'd love to see them in the aftermath, scolding him and all, but kinda not during the actual fight. Or maybe they do a random check-in call in the middle of the Mallen-esque fight where he gets pwned and he's all 'I'm totally fine' while he's getting pounded into the pavement with fatal injuries, because how Tony is that? And then they chew his out in the aftermath.)

I think very many people, not all of them Iron Man will cry if we get Civil War in movieverse. And like marinarusalka says, it doesn't make sense in that environment either. So HAPPY THOUGHTS! :D

I thought Sharon was blonde? Anyway, Extremis was a pretty cool storyline, so if they go that way, I hope they have the technology to make it appear realistic. I pretty much screamed with joy during Cap's movie when Bucky picked up the shield, although none of my friends knew why. I think it would be better for Winter Soldier (they've gotta have him!) to appear in the third movie. I loved Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, so I hope he comes back.

Yeah, Peggy and Sharon are *both* blonde in the comics. I kind of liked Peggy being brunette but I hope we get blonde!Sharon. My current head-canon says, that was obviously dyed hair, to make her look as much like Peggy as possible (witness the hairstyle and lipstick and of course the uniform).

But in the actual movie, blondeness would help differentiate her from Peggy a lot, visually and that can only be a good thing, if they do go a romantic-ish route (I actually think they're planning to go the Tony&Pepper in IM1 route with them for CA2 at least)

I really want them each to feature in each other's movie in some way, even if it's just a cameo. Maybe in Cap 2, there could be some flashbacks between WWII!Howard and Modern Day Tony, showcasing Cap's relationship with both...

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE Extremis and the Mandarin to factor into Iron Man 3. Seeing RDJ's Tony undergo the Extremis transformation would pretty much make me happy forever, and the Mandarin is a great foil for him.

And also ditto ditto ditto! My only peeve is that this being RL, means that Extremis won't 'youngify' RDJ like it was supposed to have done a bit for comics!Tony. But whatever, RDJ is pretty enough that it might not be needed. (I think they already make him up specifically to age him down a bit for IM)

I don't want Civil War either, but I'm actually not too worried about it. At least not yet. The movieverse is just not set up for it. You can't have an SHRA in a world where there's only, like, five superheroes, and they're all working for the government already. And you can't have a tragic conflict between best friends when none of the Avengers have even met each other yet.

Now, by the time we get to Iron Man 5 or Avengers 3 or something, then it might be time to worry...

Since Maria Hill is going to be in the movies, I want her to kick lots of ass and possibly have fun snarky interactions with Agent Coulson. Other than that, I'm not too picky. :-)

Cap #2: Internet rumours currently inform me that MODOK is at least considered as a villain. I have no idea how one could pull it off without being camp - but maybe they can revisit the concept in a way that makes it possible.
If we get Nazis I would like to see some Zola because as with alot of characters his screen time sort of got sucked into the void. Of course all the flash backs could also be used to set other villains up.
All in all, I think I will be happy as long as we don't get that bee hive Nazi/Nazi bee hive.
Supporting cast for Cap should be pretty straight forward since there aren't many options there.

Iron Man #3: While Extremis would be the most likely upgrade there's tons of other stuff they could do. Force Field or Stealth Armor for example. But I think it's likely we will get Extremis because it's awesome it's a very substantial upgrade and it would be easy to weave in with the big fight if they make the rings alien technology.
Other fun stuff could be hints of Tiberius, Rumiko or Sentient Armor but they can do some of that in the 4th ;)

But what I really, really, really want is little crossovers between all characters. I mean if you have a shared movie verse you have to use it. Reference your shared canon and explain why the hero can't call SHIELD for help.

... MODOK?! Really?! Holy shit, that's the lamest villain anyone could have chose! I hope fanboy outrage (they are raging, right?) turns out to be good for one thing and makes them re-think this. MODOK?! D: (Also, I though AIM and MODOK were Iron Man villains with all their science and stuff?)

Nazi Bee hive? Is that the HYDRA face mask, lol? (Are do you just not feel like any HYDRA with you movie?)

OOH, Sentient Armor would be fun, but I think that's a little too WTF? for a) a movie audience and b) it's too short for am entire movie and too unconnected for just a sub-plot... Hmm, maybe Avengers #2 (which I'm pretty sure will bring in Hank and Jan, or at least THEY'D BETTER!!) will be about Ultron and then we could have Sentient Armor in the next IM movie (after all Sentient Armor was supposed to be a corrupted remnant of Ultron!)

Man, I would so love to see Rumiko, but I don't think we'll get that. Tony/Pepper seems too firmly entrenched in the verse. :/ Maybe for romantic tension stuff? (Idk if I want that in my movie though... )

I'm really hoping they don't go with Mandarin. I can't think of a way to do it without being all Yellow Peril about it, and there's more than enough xenophobia in the US about the Chinese as it is. Maybe if they balanced it out with a bunch of heroic Asian characters, but I'd really prefer they didn't use him at all.

I'd like to see Meya though, and using the Extremis would be cool.

For Cap I really want to see either Social Worker Sam or Ult!Sam the scientist. It seems like the writers are looking more at 616 with him. Beron Zemo for bad guy.

I kind of hope Sharon is in it, but they don't date. This is a vein hope, but there you go. Still, Sharon could be a kickass SHIELD Agent and Steve could date Tony Bernie or someone.

Hmm, I think in the original comics the Mandarin is very Yellow Peril because a) he's the only Chinese person in the story and b) He seems to be working specifically against 'The West'.

In the comics, in the recent years, Mandarin is increasingly being portrayed as a thorn in the Chinese Government's side. His first point of order is usually "First China... And then the WORLD! MWAHAHAAHA!" (Huh, I just realized, Iron Man seems to have gone from the explicitly Red Scare hero, to the hero with the best relationships with both Russia and China. What a turnaround! O_O) They can probably make it that it's a 'Whole World' kind of plan and Tony gets involved at first, because his college friend Maya is involved as well.

I get that it's kind of irritating and obnoxious to have the American save the world (again) but when we're choosing to watch an Iron Man movie, something we'll have to suffer through. ._.

And this is a really long shot, but I'm kind of hoping for Temugin to be there as well. Maybe as the son who does not know about his father's terrorist connections and helps IM when he learns about them. (Those weird two issues where Temugin inexplicably turned evil in the comics, DO NOT EXIST, okay? >:[ BAD MARVEL.)

An interview I read, that puts in print that the writers are very aware of how skeevy Cap/Sharon seems, so soon after Cap/Peggy, makes me hope for a Tony&Pepper in IM1 kind of situation. (Though of course that does not preclude graduation to the IM2 kind of situation. :/)

With Captain America I agree that I don't want them to run directly into the Winter Soldier plot line but I would just explode with glee if they introduced Bucky as Winter Soldier at the very end in the after credits clip that they always do. Much like how they introduced the Cosmic Cube at the end of Thor.

I don't care if Steve walks out of the SHIELD office in downtown Manhattan and bumps into her. Or they meet in line at Starbucks. Or at the DMV. I need her in the movie. It's gone past want and hope; I'm at the *need* level.

For the 1980s, Bernie's always depicted as a modern, independent woman. She clearly has her own life that has nothing to do with being Steve's girlfriend. She's a great example of a kick-ass woman that's not The Action Girl. Moreover, she's always making pop culture references or trying to drag Steve out of his little shell. Once she tried to get him to go see O Calcutta! instead of Oklahoma. (God, I love the 80s.) Bernie also never let Steve wallow in his self-misery. Girl didn't do 'self-pity.' Point being --

Their relationship can serve the pyshical manifestation of Steve adjusting to what happened. Make Bernie the personification of 'Modern 21st Century', and have Steve fall in love with her. It will tie in with the theme! It will make their relationship more than just your obligatory love interest crap.

No Extremus. it is cool and it would update the armor but no.I heard once that they where going to have tonys alcoholism as a factor in #3 and Hammer is back. maybe he joins with mandarin just to see tony suffer. I also think the head of the ten rings in #1 should become mandarin. he talked about gangus kaun and he well be looking for power and find one of the rings leading him to gather the others.
