TITLE: Freeway

SUMMARY: In which Steve is trying to find a place for himself in the twenty-first century, Tony is appallingly unfaithful to Pepper, and Loki returns to earth, joins the Avengers, and does not quite seek redemption or absolution. Contains sex, angst, and mutant civil rights; doing the wrong things for the right reasons; and the right things for the wrong reasons.
NOTES: This is the complete rewrite of my previous story, Patiently. It is the third in a three-part series. They can all be found on Ao3, as I will no longer be updating my livejournal. For those of you interested in my non-fandom works, I'm currently co-writing and illustrating a webcomic called Behind the Throne; it updates Sundays.

Title: Freeway, Chapter Seven
Rating: This chapter is PG-13.
Summary: Tony's room goes dim as a cloud passes over the sun, casting the city outside in shadow. In the sudden gloom, Pepper's shoulders cut severe lines all the way down to the slim knots of her hands. The treasure's melted away: she doesn't glitter at all. There's nothing left but the brittle crystals of her eyes, shining in the semi-darkness like broken bottles. The really shitty breakup chapter.
Warnings: Infidelity. Gore. Tony being incredibly horrible and selfish.
Notes: This is part three, chapter seven of the Stone series. 3bird is my amazing beta, as always.

Summary: "I want this," Tony whispers to his jaw. "I want you. I want to do this right." When he swallows, Steve can feel it against his throat. "I'm sorry," he says again.
Warnings: Infidelity. Graphic sex. Really old movies.
Notes: This took a million years to finish, sorry. Hopefully I'll have chapter seven out sooner. 3bird is my amazing beta, as always.

Title: Freeway, Chapter Five
Rating: R for gore. Um, there's some penis-to-mouth contact, but it isn't... sexual...? So maybe NC-17, but there isn't actually sex happening in this chapter. Not where anyone can see, anyway.
Summary: While he's never believed you walk around with half a heart 'til you meet someone who fits, he's prepared to accept that maybe they do things different on other planets. That's what watching them feels like, to him: changing your mind.
Warnings: Gore. Poor life decisions.
Notes: This chapter gave me fits, but miraculously (and mostly due to my perfect-human-of-a-beta, 3bird) stuff got sorted out. Plot is mostly in line. Sex forthcoming in chapter six, but have some plot and feels for now.

...So, aside from all the other things I should be doing, I made a pretty neat (in my humble opinion <3) Superhusbands logo. It's the usual splice between shield/arc reactor, but. I used vectors? It's shiny? Anyway, it prints super nice. So I put up a Cafepress shop totally dedicated to shipping them. So if you want some Superhusbands swag, it is available. I will do more things later, but for now it's just the... uh... ShieldReactor. Ahem. EDIT: Apparently it's okay for people to use the shield and the reactor, but not together. I emailed customer service about it, but - for now, it's not available. Sigh. The shield doesn't have the start on it, but it's pretty obviously Captain America in my opinion. The arc reactor is blatant, though. I thought this would be okay. I'll let you know if the situation changes, sorry. EDIT: Thanks for the wonderful comments, guys! I'm using Zazzle now - hopefully that will work out better. :) Shop is here, stuff might not show up for a few hours but direct links can be found to the t-shirt and necklace v2. "Fine." Brief trickles of sweat shiver down Steve's spine, collect in the creases of his chest and belly, under his arms. He thinks about cool water on his face and back. He closes his eyes and sees blue.

"Dress sharp," Tony orders, and hangs up.

Notes: so this is actually a companion story to two other ones I've written; it's just kind of morphed into a chaptered thing with, you know, plot and stuff.
Summary: Steve, on a very personal level, is suffering from a very literal disconnect from everything he has known and everyone he has loved. Right now, he's just trying to figure out where he fits in Tony's life when Tony has so many other people around him.

( Tony'd said it before: Steve isn't special on his own. He isn't. He was made. )
